Christ the King

Our Offerings: November 17

Regular Sunday Collection: $17,506.00

Together We Serve: $1,180.00

Formed.org Next Sunday we begin the season of

Advent. Help your children prepare for Christmas with The

Days of Advent. Brother Francis leads them on a daily

journey in this special celebration of the coming of the

Lord. It features meditations, prayers, and suggested

activities to keep our focus on Christ this Christmas. Our

parish access code is TBQYW9.

“This is the king of the Jews.”

Today, as the Church, we conclude our liturgical year and celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. The

Gospel we proclaim shows the great mystery of our faith: the moment of His crucifixion, Jesus is shown

to be King and Savior of all.

Luke’s Gospel has been filled with surprises: the poor are rich, sinners find salvation, the kingdom of

God is found in our midst. Here we see the greatest surprise of all. We are confronted with the crucified

Jesus, whom faith tells us is the King and Savior of all. How could this pitiful sight think of Himself as

the Son of David! He did not bear any sign of God’s favor, battered and humiliated as He was. Yet there

was one person who saw past the matted hair and blood-stained face to “the image of the invisible God.”

The good thief, as generations would call him, was rewarded for his clear vision with paradise itself.

On this Sunday of the year, we are asked to contemplate the face of a King,

so that we will recognize sovereignty when we see it.

The giving tree . . .

is a St. Thomas More Advent tradition. As a parish, we take

time to share our good fortune with the women and children

of the Lurana Shelter, a refuge for those fleeing from family

violence. The Giving Tree will be in the gathering space of

the church during the weeks of Advent starting November 30

and December 1. The angels and stars hanging on the

Giving Tree have items that are needed by Lurana Shelter (a

list of needed items is also posted by the tree). Each family is

encouraged to pick an angel or star from the tree and return

the new item requested during the following three weekends

of Advent. Do not wrap any of the gifts. Giving gifts cards

is strongly encouraged (suggested maximum amount per

card is $25) and, if gift cards are purchased from the Knights

of Columbus, results in double giving. The Catholic Girls’

League will be decorating the angels and stars and preparing

the Giving Tree. The Catholic Women’s League is

coordinating this project once again and thanks all for their

support.

All seniors are warmly invited to attend the 2019

St. Thomas More Seniors' Christmas Dinner & Dance

with her husband and 2 children (ages 4, 2) to her (senior)

parent-in-laws house. They had to move because of mold in

their apartment. All adults are low income and require food

(including milk and fresh fruit for the children) as well as

winter clothing. They are expecting another baby in April.

If you wish to make a donation to help one of our needy fam-

ilies, or if you have furniture or household items that you no

longer need, please call 780-471-5577. If you know of some-

one who needs help or want to learn more about SSVP

Celebrating Our Schools

We are very pleased with the positive reaction

of our schools to the new Sunday initiative of

featuring a parish school. St Mary's

enthusiastically took part by providing an

excellent display at the entry, taking part in the

liturgy and welcoming people. We appreciate

the effort of the staff, students and parents and

hope to see many returning in the coming

Sundays. In the future we will welcome all the

schools in our parish community. Thank-you

for your eagerness and energy.

Our next school that will be

participating is St. Boniface on

December 1st at the noon Mass. They

will be providing greeters, readers and

music ministry. We warmly invite all

students, their families, and staff to

celebrate with us!
