Hello Everyone,
GENERAL FAITH NIGHTS
Yesterday the entire school participated in a mandatory practice
emergency evacuation drill. The staff and students were great, evacuating
to the front of the school in a calm and orderly manner. We will endeavour
to conduct emergency evacuation and lock in drills each term. The staff
also undertook their annual emergency management procedure training
last night.
Tomorrow we are taking a large number of students in our Swimming Team to the Eltham District
Swimming Carnival at Watermarc in the morning. We wish all our competitors the best of luck and
reassure them that their best is good enough. Parents are welcome to attend and cheer their
children on.
DISTRICT SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Tonight is the second session of the General Faith Night for families with
children who will be celebrating one of the Sacraments this year. The
first session night last Tuesday was highly successful and will again be
facilitated by Dr Christiaan Jacobs-Vandegeer, a researcher in the
Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry at ACU’s Melbourne campus. A
reminder the night starts at 7.00pm in the church.
EVACUATION DRILL
Year 4 parents please note that this year’s Year 4 Overnight Camp is on
Thursday and Friday 17th and 18th October, at Holy Cross in Temple-
stowe. This is a correction to the dates published in last week’s newsletter
calendar.

RE NEWS
Update dates
Our Confirmation date is allocated to us by the Regional Bishop, who has to
celebrate Confirmation Masses at over 50 schools within our region, as well
as having many other commitments. As you can imagine his calendar is
quite full as he has many events and communities to consider. Schools are
often allocated a Friday night and even a Thursday night to celebrate Confir-
mation at the Cathedral. We have been very lucky in the past to always have
had a Sunday allocated to us to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation.
Therefore, we as a school have no actual say in the date allocation we are
given.

WELLBEING @ ST THOMAS
STAR ON THE YARD At assembly this week we launched a new initiative - ‘Star On The Yard’ as part of our whole
school approach to promoting School Wide Positive Behaviour. This is to promote positive behav-
iour and acknowledge students who are doing amazing things out on the yard.
Students can be nominated by a School Captain, Peer Mediator or a Teacher. Each week 1 student
will be announced as ‘Star On The Yard’, and will receive a certificate of acknowledgement and our
Star On The Yard trophy to keep (at school) on their desk for the week.

ENRICHMENT AND CARE
Tim, from ‘Values For Life’, came to talk to the Year 1 & 2 students about resilience. We played a
game called ‘The Fox and the Hen’ and we learnt the BOUNCE acronym -
Bad times don’t last
Others can help
Unhelpful thinking makes it worse
Nobody is perfect
Change the things you can
Everybody is important
We talked about the catastrophe scale with examples about minor problems and major problems
and how everyone can be a problem solver.
YEAR 1 & 2 INCURSION
ENRICHMENT AND CARE
Year 5 and 6 students are currently learning how to work in teams, be resilient, learn to trust and
cooperate with each other as part of their Inquiry and Religion focus of “How Can I Be the Best
Version of Me.” Today during an incursion, run by Supreme Incursions, the students were split into
teams to practice these skills. They enjoyed learning and practicing these skills through team
building activities.
