From the Pen of Father Len Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Titus Parish,

Praised be Jesus Christ—now and Forever! First of all, I hope all of our mothers out there had a good Mother’s Day last Sunday. Secondly, I sincerely thank all of you who have been very faithful in your financial support of the Parish. Many of our parishioners are giving online or bringing their donations into the Parish Office or sending their contributions through the mail. There are also those who have been very generous and increased the amount of their contributions. Like you, our bills have not stopped coming in. Nor has the Archdiocese released us from our assessment amounts due them. So, again—THANK YOU—for your generosity. And thirdly, through this month of May, we continue our recognition of and devotion to our Blessed Mother. This past Wednesday we celebrated the 103rd anniversary of our Blessed Lady’s apparition to the three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. During a series of apparitions until October 13, the Blessed Mother revealed various secrets to the children and other things that were not really secrets but important issues for the children to be aware of and share what they had seen or heard. Such things would include the vision of hell, the request to say the rosary every day and calling herself Our Lady of the Rosary. There was, of course, the great Miracle of the Sun on October 13, 1917, witnessed by over 70,000 people over a 5 mile area. But, another thing the Blessed Mother told the children was that Jesus was already too much offended by the sins of the world. She did say that World War I would be over soon. But if the world didn’t change, there would be another war that would be worse. Then, we had World War II, during which tens of thousands of people were killed in concentra-tion camps. Then came the Korean War, the Vietnam war and Desert Storm. Right now, there are people who are saying that the present virus that is effecting us is another warning or plague being allowed by God to get people to turn back to Him. I can’t say that I totally disagree with that thought. Praying the rosary every day certainly couldn’t hurt in helping us eliminate this virus. But virus or no virus, saying the rosary daily could definitely help all of us increase our spiritual life, as well as, continue to give honor and glory to God.

Peace, Fr. Len

PARISH OFFICE REMAINS OPEN MONDAY—FRIDAY, 9am-4pm DURING THE SUSPENSION OF MASSES/ACTIVITIES. NOT OPEN FOR EVENING HOURS.

MEET ST. CORONA, PATRONESS OF EPIDEMICS She witnessed the martyrdom of St. Victor, a soldier who was executed by his brothers-in-arms for his faith. While Victor was being tortured and disfigured, the brave 16-year-old Corona cried out comforting words and encouragement as Victor held fast to his faith and gave up his life for the Lord. Victor’s persecutors soon turned on Corona and executed her by tying her to drawn palm trees, which ripped her in half when snapped upright. Yet the young saint never gave up her faith. As the Coronavirus wreaks havoc and vexes us all, St. Corona gives us an opportunity to lean into our faith and cling to hope, no matter the turmoil around us.

St. Corona, patroness of epidemics, pray for us!

ST. JOHN’S HOSPICE CASSEROLE PROGRAM St. Titus Parish has been making casseroles for St. John’s Hospice in Center City Philadelphia for over 35 years. The casseroles are the “Main Course” of a complete, hot meal that is served to hundreds of God’s poor and homeless who come to St. John’s for their daily bread. Please do not feel restricted to the recipes which can be found on the recipe sheets near the casserole pan in the vestibule. Your favorite recipe is most welcome! So are store bought casseroles such as Stouffers or Oncor. St. John’s provides us with pans and lids for your dishes. If you provide your own, please use a standard “half tray”. Each casserole serves 6-8 men. Each month, St. John’s picks up the dishes from our freezer. Here are some useful hints: Please bring your casseroles frozen

to church and put them in the freezer located in the vestibule of the Social Hall. If the door to the Social Hall is locked, please leave the casserole with a sacristan or maintenance.

Prepare your recipe so that it can be eaten with a plastic “spork” (a combination spoon and fork).

Please mark the lid with the main ingredients and date you prepared your casserole.

Keep those casseroles coming! St. John’s Hospice has notified us that they will continue to make pickups during the COVID-19 crisis. The need is great especially now.

UPDATES ON ORDINATIONS & CONFIRMATIONS The annual ordinations to priesthood and diaconate in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, to be celebrated by Archbishop Nelson Perez for the first time, have been rescheduled for later in the spring and confirmations in parishes will be rescheduled for the fall, according to information released by the archdiocese in recent days. The ordination of transitional will be combined with the ordination of permanent deacons on Saturday, June 13 at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia. The ordination of new priests for the archdiocese will be celebrated the following week on Saturday, June 20 at the cathedral.

The conferral of the ministry of acolytes will be celebrated with a Mass on Sept. 12 in St. Martin’s Chapel at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Wynnewood. The ordination dates remain tentative, depending on the direction of civil and health officials, according to Bishop Timothy C. Senior, the rector of the seminary. The conferral of confirmation depends on whether coronavirus precautions extend into the fall, and if so, scheduling will again be reevaluated.
