Baptism Information • Parents are required to have attended a Jordan Night within the

previous five years before a scheduled Baptism is celebrated. The next Jordan Night (Baptism class) is Thursday, December 11. You do need to be a member of St. Victoria to have your child Baptized here.

• When planning your child’s Baptism, you may have only one man and one woman as sponsors and one must be a Confirmed Catholic and be at least 16 years old. (Or, you may have just one sponsor.) We also need to see a copy of your child’s birth certificate prior to the Baptism.

• The next regularly scheduled Baptisms are December 6 and 7. • Baptisms are celebrated during all three weekend Masses and

after the 5 p.m. Saturday and 10:45 a.m. Sunday Masses. Contact Mary Harvey in the parish office for information at 443-2661 x206 or [email protected].

Food for thought . . . The readings for November 30 First Sunday of Advent Reading I: Isaiah 63:16b-17, 19b, 64:2-7 Reading II: 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 Gospel: Mark 13:33-37

Advent literally means “coming.” This coming refers to the first coming of Jesus as a baby in Nazareth, his coming into the hearts of faithful Christians throughout the ages and his final coming in glory at the end of the world. Christians in the first century looked for Christ to return soon to establish once and for all God’s reign of justice, peace and love. The parable we hear in Mark’s Gospel encouraged the early Christians not to grow careless. Advent is a time of joyful expectation. Jesus will come again. He will not forget his own. Keep looking! Question of the Week How do you show hope in your daily life? What ways do you bring God into your life every day?

Communion at Home If you, or someone you know, is unable to come to Mass on a weekday or weekend (surgery, accident, illness, etc.), parishioners who are a part of the St. Victoria Pastoral Care Team will be happy to bring Communion to your home. It can be a one-time only occasion or on-going for as long as you like. To arrange for Communion at home, please call Mary Pat Green at 443-3903 orAdrienne Carrica at 448-9501.

Concert Tickets on Sale This Weekend Tickets go on sale this weekend for our annual LaNoche Azul Concert featuring award-winning Gospel singer Robert Robinson . The concert will be held in the Worship Space on Tuesday, December 9, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Robinson is the son of a pastor and rooted in church choir tradition and has performed with Aretha Franklin, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Billy Graham Crusade, the National Day of Prayer in Washington DC, Prince’s birthday bash and was a featured vocalist with local celebrity and nationally acclaimed pianist Lorie Line for 15 years. He has been voted the Best Male Vocalist by the Minneapolis Star Tribune and City Pages.

Tickets are $15 and they will be available after Masses until the weekend before the concert date and they will be available at the door the evening of the concert. The evening also includes a reception. Buy your tickets now to hear the incredible voice of Robert Robinson!

Poinsettias for the Holidays Again this year, you may donate a poinsettia to St. Victoria in honor of, or in memory of, a loved one and at the same

time beautify our worship spaces for Christmas. The suggested donation for each plant is $15. Put your donation in an envelope and place it in the collection basket at one of the weekend liturgies, mail it in, or drop it off at the parish office. Please make checks out to St. Victoria and mark the envelope to the attention of Joni

Jeurissen. Please be sure to include the names of the person or people you are donating in honor or memory of and the name(s) of who is donating the plant. The deadline for donations is Wednesday, December 17. There will be an insert in one of our Christmas Season bulletins listing all of the donors and memorials. Thank you!

Welcome to St. Victoria If you are a visitor at St. Victoria, welcome! If you would like information on becoming a registered parishioner at St. Victoria, please feel free to contact Julie Schmieg in the parish office. She will be happy to line up an appointment for you at one of our upcoming “Bien Venidos” registration dates for new parishioners. (Bien Venidos means good wel-come.) You may reach Julie at [email protected] or 443-2661 x201. (Please Note: If you are a guest at St. Victoria and would like to make a contribution, you will find “Welcome Envelopes” in the kiosk in the Commons.)

Giving Tree It’s time again for our parish-wide Giving Tree project. This year we will again collect toys with a toy drive for the CAP Agency and we will collect items to put baskets together for Trinity Mission to hand out to families in need. The baskets will be filled with towels, personal care items and food. Grab a tag from the tree and please return all items to the tree by Sunday, December 14. Baskets will be assembled that day and all deliveries will be made on Monday, December 15. If your family would like to assemble a complete basket for Trinity Mission, please contact Sara in the parish office for a list of items for the basket.

Decorators Needed • For Advent, Tuesday, Nov. 25, 10 a.m. • For concert preparation, Monday, Dec. 8, 6:30 p.m. • For Christmas, Tuesday, Dec. 23, 10 a.m.

From the Pastor’s Desk . . . Happenings at St. Victoria . . . Making a Difference

Over the last few weeks we have saluted our volunteers, we held our annual Harvest of Gifts and we shared what volunteerism can mean to participants and recipients. Today, I am sharing some HATS OFF salutes that underscore the difference our volunteers make in reaching out to be the face and hands of Jesus Christ. HATS OFF and thank you . . . . . . Erv and Linda Spevacek for throwing a great party in honor of Jamie on Sunday, November 16. Great Job.

. . . It all began a long time ago — Julie Schmieg did the pilgrimage into the Volunteer Ministry Land and learned about volunteerism and then passed the baton along to Patty Schlader. We have been blessed with a wide variety of ministries and by so many who have come forward to volunteer over the years. I would like to take the time to again express my gratitude.

Harvest of Gifts was a great showcase of our volunteerism this year. Thank you to all our coordinators of the ministries who came forward to tend the tables. Also, a huge thank you to Diane Theis, Diane Lynum, John Wall and Rod Vacek for help in enhancing our environment. Thanks to Victoria Floral for the wonderful floral arrangements. There were many others who helped to make this a great event. Hospitality: Doc and Chub Schmieg, Terri Emry, John and Karen Campbell, Joanna Bongard, Cindy Notermann, Joni Jeurissen, Julie Schmieg, Sara Svenby, Danielle, Kaylen and Shannon Hively, Donna Brengman, Denise and Bob Parnau and Linda and Erv Spevacek. Bakers who made those wonderful bars : Peg Anderson, Pam Stern, Joni Jeurissen, Mary Ellen Timmers, Pat Looft, Carol Ann Pavett, Sarah Kreykes, Barb Forbrook, Janet Albright, Shelli McGuire, Mary Catino, Anne Wise, Becky Tinucci, Katie Miller, Sue Quickstad, Terri Emry and Jacque Krause. Also, a big thanks to all our staff for their support which includes Mary Harvey who designs the Harvest of Gifts brochure each year. A very special thank you to Sharon Schindler and Sue Orsen who always share their gifts at the piano and organ, to Lisa Payne currently directing the choir, to the choir members and to our cantors.

Remember, you each are called to a ministry and I hope that you make this upcoming year your Hallelujah Year!

. . . All I want for Christmas is . . . a new blouse or baby clothes . . . The families in the Appalachian Mountains will be thrilled with what they receive from the loving families of St. Victoria. We are truly grateful for some of our lovely ladies from our Focus Groups who became the “holiday shoppers” with the tithing money from St. Victoria Parish and picked up items for all ages to send to Kentucky. Shoppers included Corinne Eiden, Joni Jeurissen, Elaine Scholl, Cynnie Harris, Jeanne Dahlin and Patty Schlader. Also, thanks to Roger and Marge Leuthner who transported the items. Dorothy Kelzer has brought this wonderful ministry to us for many years. There will be joy in Appalachia thanks to your generous contributions that resulted in a tithe of $1,500. Fr. Bob

November 27 and Friday, November 28.

Service of Gratitude Lake Auburn Moravian Church is hosting a Service of Gratitude this coming Sunday, November 23. Lake Auburn Moravian Church is just across from Lake Auburn on County Road 11. All Victoria area churches are invited to this brief Service of Gratitude that will be followed by fellowship in the lower level of the church. This is one of the few times that the Victoria churches have an opportunity to worship together and for their members to get to know each other. This is a great opportunity to prepare for Thanksgiving and the coming holiday season.

Faith Formation Grades K-10 Youth Corner Faith Formation Thanksgiving schedule As a reminder, with our Thanksgiving holiday there are no Wednesday Faith Formation or Confirmation Sessions on Wednesday, November 26, or Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Sunday, November 30. Keep “Thanks” and “Giving” in your Thanksgiving.

Take time to remember all that we have to be thankful for. Keeping our hearts and minds thankful for all the blessings we have sometimes can be a struggle. It is human to become caught up in the hardships going on in our lives. God promises he will get us through them (Philippians 4:13). We can be thankful because we have a God that is with us always (Matthew 28:20).

The 6th Graders just completed a “super-fun” night of Old Testament Quiz Bowl. They used the lessons they have learned so far and also worked on finding answers in the Bible. This week we will study Saul, Israel’s First King, David killing Goliath (1 Samuel 17), Solomon and Jeremiah following God.

The 7th and 8th Graders are continuing their study of the New Testament and the “Son of God.” This week ask them about Nicodemus and have them tell you about Jesus’ miracle of the “fish and loaves.” You can also ask them who Jesus called to walk on the water and what happened to him. It is exciting to see our students become more engaged and confident in their small group discussions. I would like to compliment the teachers and their guidance in those small groups. It was enlightening watching you work with your students. This week, before we break for Thanksgiving, we will have a Quiz Bowl and other games reviewing the lessons so far.

Our Confirmation Students just discussed “Where Am I Going?” They covered “Death and Judgment,” “Heaven and Hell” and “Purgatory.” There was a lot of thought, questions and even some answers. Go ahead and ask them, “So, what did you learn tonight?” This week we will conclude “Where Am I Going?” and discuss Purgatory, Grace and the sacraments. Reminder: Get your Sponsor Forms in (They were due 11/18)

Our Post High School Group that meets every third Sunday of the month will not meet in December. The next meeting will be January 18.

Our High School Group (grades 9-12) that meets every fourth Sunday of the month will not meet in December. The next meeting will be January 25.

Reminder: We continue to bring in gifts, money (for shipping) and shoe boxes for “Operation Christmas Child.” If you do not want to send cash, make checks out to St. Victoria. Thanks for your wonderful support.
