As we come to the end of 2015, and prepare to enter the new year of 2016, let us take to heart the prayer of Pope Francis for the family.

Pope Francis' Prayer to the Holy Family

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendor of true love, to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic Churches. Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again ex-perience violence, rejection and division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer. (given at St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, December 29, 2013)

A Stewardship Moment

The ultimate aim of Saint Paul’s Letter to the Colossians is to teach the community how to deepen its relationship with Christ Jesus. His list of virtues summarizes the ideals of communal stewardship: compassion, kindness, humili-ty, gentleness and patience. For Paul, practicing these vir-tues opens our hearts to Christ as individuals and as a worshipping community. This is how the Christian com-munity ought to live. This is how its members should be-have in their dealings with others, particularly with fellow believers. As we approach the new year, how might we embrace one or more of these virtues more fully in our parish community in order to deepen our relationship with Jesus?

“Help Us Help Others with Donations & Purchases”

O Come Let Us Adore Him, Christ The Lord!

Our Mother of Mercy Outreach Services Christmas Weekend gives us an opportunity to welcome Christ to our hearts several times. We can welcome Christ by making more opportunities for prayer in our lives as well as show example to our families for prayer. Some-times prayer prior to meals, leaving the home, as well as evening time, will make everyone calmer and closer to God. Opportunities are around us: it is up to us to show example. Another way to show example and mercy is to be considerate of the poor. Remember, Christ was born poor and lived among poor people. His message was love and caring.

Our ministry tries to show Christ’s example to the disen-franchised people in the Wildwood area. We tend to forget that this county was once one of the poorest areas in Flori-da. There are retired people who didn’t have the employ-ment opportunities that many from other parts of the coun-try had. Local elderly have little social security for their food and shelter. Many children live in poverty and their families struggle to cover their expenses.

Our food pantry is located on Main Street on Rt. 301, be-tween Tin Can Pam’s and the Oakwood Take Out. Since moving in August, we have opened four times a month instead of two. Our pantry provides nonperishable food to anyone in need. Although Christmas fell on a pantry opening day, our clients will still be able to get nonperisha-ble food tomorrow.

Our personal assistance volunteers see clients at the same location Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 10am.

Thank You to all who have made this Christmas a spe-cial time for the poor in this area. If you collected food in your neighborhood; donated toys; purchased gifts for nursing home patients; or donated to many of the worth-while charities in the area; YOU are trying to live the life of a caring Catholic and following the example of Christ and St. Vincent de Paul.

Come Pray for our Troops at Veterans Park

A prayer group for our troops meets every Thursday at 8:00 a.m. at Veterans' Memorial Park in Spanish Springs. The group has been meeting for 8 years, and the main purpose is so the people don't forget our sol-diers. The names of any soldiers who have lost their life in the past week are read. Then a list is read of approximately 150 men and women who are now overseas and at home. Then the group says prayers for the safety of the soldiers and their families. At the end, we sing a patriotic song.

After the meeting there is a fellowship breakfast at TooJays in Spanish Springs. Everyone is welcome. It is only 20-30 minutes of your time. The troops need to be remembered; they give us so much.

For information call Tom or Barbara Troisi at (352) 430-0175.
