From the Pastor: In Lent we are called to conversion, a changing of our ways. Such changes must not endure only for the forty days of the season, but rather demonstrate that we are making steps forward all of the time. So, what will you change? What will be new? Many of you remember the “corporal” and “spiritual” works of mercy. Reviewing your life in

regard to the works of mercy may be a very effective way to determine what changes you want to make in your life. In this Jubilee Year of Mercy such evaluation and change seems very appropriate. The “corporal” works of mercy are: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, harbor the harborless or shelter the homeless, visit the sick, ransom the captive or visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead. All of these works can be done in our local area. There are hospitals, shelters, food pantries, prisons, and funeral homes and churches where we can be trained and volunteer to meet people in relation to these works of mercy. The “spiritual” works of mercy are: instruct the ignorant, counsel the doubtful, admonish sinners, bear wrongs patiently, forgive offences willingly, comfort the afflicted, and pray for the living and the dead. To complete these works of mercy we need not even leave our homes. Many of these works can be done within our own families. Additionally, we can communicate with others by phone, email, regular mail, and by their visits to our homes. Conversion is not easy. Nonetheless, there are long-standing methods by which to accomplish conversion. The Church offers us the season of Lent by which to intensify our journey of conversion. Let’s use Lent and let us cooperate by helping each other to experience the changes to which we are called and for which we have a set of values to follow, namely, the works of mercy.- Peace, Fr. The World’s Poor Collection is an opportunity to come together and be witnesses of charity to our brothers and sisters. Please be generous in today’s second collection.

The Campaign for Human Development provides funding for groups that make lasting change and uplift the poor in the United States. Our funds help improve education, support economic development, and create affordable housing in low-income neighborhoods.

The Catholic Relief Services Collection serves Jesus in the victims of human trafficking, those who suffer from unjust laws, and those who need pastoral care and humanitarian assistance across the globe.

Peter’s Pence Collection is taken up worldwide to support our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Join our Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters.

Mensaje de nuestro Párroco: La Cuaresma nos llama a la conversión, a un cambio de hábitos. Pero, tales cambios no deben perdurar durante los 40 días de cuaresma solamente, sino que deben de servirnos para demostrar que estamos avanzando paso a paso todo el tiempo. Entonces, ¿qué es lo tú vas a cambiar? ¿Qué renovaras?

Muchos de ustedes han oído acerca de las obras de misericordia “corporales” y “espirituales.” Revisar tu vida en relación a las obras de misericordia puede ser una manera efectiva de determinar qué cambios necesitas hacer. En este Año Jubilar de Misericordia dicha evaluación y cambios son muy apropiados.

Las obras “corporales” de misericordia son: dar de comer al hambriento, dar de beber al sediento, dar posada al necesitado, vestir al desnudo, visitar al enfermo, socorrer a los presos, enterrar a los muertos. Todas estas obras pueden llevarse a cabo en nuestra área local. Hay hospitales, refugios, despensas, prisiones, funerarias e iglesias donde podemos recibir capacitación y donde podemos dar nuestro tiempo voluntariamente para encontrar a las personas a las cuales se refieren estas obras de misericordia.

Las obras “espirituales” de misericordia son: enseñar al que no sabe, dar buen consejo al que lo necesita, corregir al que está en error, perdonar las injurias, consolar al triste, sufrir con paciencia los defectos de los demás, rogar a Dios por vivos y difuntos. Para llevar a cabo estas obras de misericordia no necesitamos alejarnos de casa. Muchas de estas obras pueden llevarse a cabo dentro de nuestras propias familias. Además, podemos comunicarnos con otros por teléfono, email, correo postal, y con sus visitas de ellos a nuestros hogares.

La conversión no es fácil. Sin embargo, hay métodos antiguos con los cuales podemos alcanzar la conversión. La Iglesia nos ofrece la Cuaresma por medio de la cual podemos intensificar nuestro viaje a la conversión. Usemos la Cuaresma ayudémonos los unos a los otros a experimentar los cambios a los cuales somos llamados y para los cuales tenemos ciertos valores que seguir, específicamente, las obras de misericordia. Hoy se nos recuerda que Jesús se identifico con los mas pobres de nuestros hermanos y hermanas. La Colecta para los Pobres del Mundo es una oportunidad de unirnos y dar testimonio de amor al prójimo a nuestras hermanas y hermanos. Por favor den generosamente en esta 2a colecta.

La Campaña por el Desarrollo Humano fue fundada para terminar con el ciclo de pobreza en todo Estados Unidos fundando organizaciones que ayudan a individuos a superarse. Esta campaña otorga becas para mejorar la educación, vivienda, y da apoyo para el desarrollo económico de vecindarios de comunidades de bajos ingresos. Su contribución ayuda a defender la dignidad humana y dar ayuda a los marginados.

La Colecta para Servicios Católicos de Auxilio provee fondos para 6 Agencias Católicas que llegan a mas de 100 millones de personas en todo el mundo. Los fondos de esta colecta nos ayudan a proveer comida para el hambriento, apoyo a los refugiados desplazados, y a llevar el amor y respeto de Jesucristo a los necesitados.
