  • RE Program 2020-2021: Last week in December 2020 and Welcome to 2021

    12-27-2020 – Christmas Break

01-03-2021 – Review week for the Mid-Term Exam. More information to come.

    01-10-2021 – Mid-Term will be sent out 01-17-2021 – 2nd Semester Begins

************************************************************************************************ “And the Survey says” In Mid-November a survey was sent out to all RE families with regards to returning to RE in class instruction for the New Year.

Based upon the survey results, new state and federal health restrictions and the current increase in Covid cases, which authorities have projected to increase through the early part of 2021, the RE office has determined that in order to keep our students safe, which is our first priority, we will keep with the current online class option for the remainder of the 20-21 school year.

Exceptions to this plan are the following: 2nd graders who are preparing for 1st Penance and 1st Holy Communion will be required to attend in-person classes to help them prepare for the sacraments. These classes are Mandatory. All health safety requirements will be put in place.

    • Sunday, 01-10-2021 from 10:15AM – 12:00PM – 1st Penance preparation • Sunday, 01-24-2021 from 10:15AM – 12:00PM – 1st Penance preparation • Sunday, 01-31-2021 from 10:15AM – 12:00PM – 1st Penance Assessment Exam given • Sunday, 02-21-2021 from 10:15AM – 12:00PM - 1st Penance Mini Retreat

6th & 7th graders - in person to take the Basic Faith Exam. This will take place in March. More information to follow. Again, all COVID safety requirements will be put in place.

7th grade Confirmation Retreat is still in question and we will notify you when and if this retreat will take place.

Mid-Term Exams are scheduled for 01-10-2021 for 1st, 3rd-7th grades

1st Penance Assessment Exam for 2nd grade is scheduled for 01-31-2021 in lieu of the 01-10-2021 mid-term.

Online classes (Grades 1-7): This is the last week of Christmas Break before getting back to reality and school. Please see that your child(ren) do take time to keep up on their studies. It is important not to fall behind, as once January comes, midterms will be upon us.

The RE staff kindly requests to please continue to send in weekly assigned activity pages. Parents are asked to take a picture, scan and email completed activity pages for grading purposes.

As dispensation to attend Mass is still in effect per Bishop Burbidge, and if medical conditions prevent you from attending Sunday Mass in person, we ask that families attend Mass via live streaming regularly. We are seeing more and more parishioners coming back to church and we have the church staff and ushers to thank for implementing strict cleaning procedures regularly to keep us all safe while allowing us to attend Mass in person. So, if you are adventurous, please consider going on to the website and reserve your spot for the Mass of your choice and join us in communion with our Lord.

We will continue to post information to the parish website @ SWOYCC.ORG about the program along with emails and other forms of communications to keep you up to date on all requirements and meetings. With the uncertainty of where the months will lead us, we ask for your continued patience and understanding as we traverse the unknown and shift course as the events of the days and weeks unfold. God Bless each of you and your loved ones, especially during these trying times. We ask for your continued prayers.

The RE office will be closed for the week of 12-27-2020 -

trembling because of your sins, with joy because of your hope.” St. Gregory Nazianzen We wish you a Christmas filled with the wonder of the birth of Christ.

Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph First Reading: Gn 15:1-6, 21: 1-3 Abram shows us the Lord keeps His promises, for his off-spring were indeed many, like the stars in heaven. We, too, must trust in the Lord, so like Abram, our families might prosper. Second Reading: Hebrews 11:8, 11-12, 17-19 By faith Abraham and Sarah were blessed with Isaac, and through him, many descendants because they trusted in God’s promise and believed in what they could not see. We see that faith, trust and prayer bring forth God’s mira-cles in our lives. Gospel: Luke 2:22-40 Jesus was brought to Jerusalem to be consecrated accord-ing to the law of Moses. A man named Simeon had learned he would not die until he had seen God’s anoint-ed. Upon seeing Jesus, he immediately declared he had witnessed “the glory of your people of Israel.” The proph-etess Anna also gave thanks and spoke of Jesus to all who would listen. Both recognized the power of Jesus, alt-hough he was still an infant.
