Staff Connection... Parish Mission Statement George Green Parish Center 113 North Geneva Street Ithaca, NY 14850 *** 607/273-6121 Dear friends, Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. With this feast, we close this liturgical year during which we celebrated all of the mysteries of the life of Jesus. This day, one of the greatest of the year, is like a summary of the entire salvation mystery. When Christ, the King of the Universe and Our Savior, came to this world, it was not as the Jews of the Old Testament thought He would. They expected a king who would liberate them from the for- eign empires that oppressed them. The New Testament teaches us that the reign of Christ, the King- dom of God, is not of that kind. It is a kingdom of justice, love, and peace. This celebration of the reign of Christ over all of creation gives us an opportunity to reflect on the nature of the Kingdom of God. The Lord said to His accusers when He was being judged that His kingdom was not of this world. And they asked Him the same questions that many of us might also ask ourselves: What is this kingdom? Where will we find it? The Kingdom of God is spiritual, uni- versal, and eternalit is based on faith, justice, and love. And the Church has always taught us that the Kingdom of God is present in this world, for it is present among us! When Pilate asked Jesus, Are you the king of the Jews?Christ answered, I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into this world, to give testimony to the truth. All who are of the truth hear my voice.Pilate was a man of his times. He didnt trust anyone who was not Roman. He did- nt believe what Jesus said, nor did he comprehend the nature of the kingdom that He talked about. And, of course, he didnt recognize Jesus as a king. Maybe thats because when He was be- fore Pilate, Christ didnt show His power and His glory. But at the end of time, when He returns ma- jestically, He will certainly show them! For He will return as King of All of the Universe! And the evil, hatred, hypocrisy, and arrogance of this world will not be able to eclipse His glory and His im- mense power. As Catholics, we are obliged to struggle for that kingdom of justice, love, and peace that Christ came to establish. We have to give witness to the truth, proclaiming our faith before the world, and spread- ing the Word of God in all places. And so on this feast day, let us remember that those who show their love of God, serve their brothers and sisters with humility, practice works of mercy, reject selfishness and violence, and follow the commandments and teachings of Jesus, are the very people who will enter into the Eternal King- dom. But for the selfish, the arrogant and the hard of heart there will be little room in the Kingdom of God. When we begin to contribute to spreading the Kingdom, trying to make this little world we live in more humane and more Christian, we will be able to say that we are truly followers of Christ the King. May Christ reign in our hearts, in our thoughts and in our actions always and everywhere! Blessings, Deacon Dan Sacraments Baptism: A preparaon session is required before the bapsm of your child. Dear friends

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe With this feast we close this liturgical year during which we celebrated all of the mysteries of the life of Jesus This day one of the greatest of the year is like a summary of the entire salvation mystery

When Christ the King of the Universe and Our Savior came to this world it was not as the Jews of the Old Testament thought He would They expected a king who would liberate them from the for-eign empires that oppressed them The New Testament teaches us that the reign of Christ the King-dom of God is not of that kind It is a kingdom of justice love and peace

This celebration of the reign of Christ over all of creation gives us an opportunity to reflect on the nature of the Kingdom of God The Lord said to His accusers when He was being judged that His kingdom was not of this world And they asked Him the same questions that many of us might also ask ourselves What is this kingdom Where will we find it The Kingdom of God is spiritual uni-versal and eternalhellip it is based on faith justice and love And the Church has always taught us that the Kingdom of God is present in this world for it is present among us

When Pilate asked Jesus ldquoAre you the king of the Jewsrdquo Christ answered ldquoI am a king For this I was born and for this I came into this world to give testimony to the truth All who are of the truth hear my voicerdquo Pilate was a man of his times He didnrsquot trust anyone who was not Roman He did-nrsquot believe what Jesus said nor did he comprehend the nature of the kingdom that He talked about And of course he didnrsquot recognize Jesus as a king Maybe thatrsquos because when He was be-fore Pilate Christ didnrsquot show His power and His glory But at the end of time when He returns ma-jestically He will certainly show them For He will return as King of All of the Universe And the evil hatred hypocrisy and arrogance of this world will not be able to eclipse His glory and His im-mense power

As Catholics we are obliged to struggle for that kingdom of justice love and peace that Christ came to establish We have to give witness to the truth proclaiming our faith before the world and spread-ing the Word of God in all places

And so on this feast day let us remember that those who show their love of God serve their brothers and sisters with humility practice works of mercy reject selfishness and violence and follow the commandments and teachings of Jesus are the very people who will enter into the Eternal King-dom But for the selfish the arrogant and the hard of heart there will be little room in the Kingdom of God When we begin to contribute to spreading the Kingdom trying to make this little world we live in more humane and more Christian we will be able to say that we are truly followers of Christ the King

May Christ reign in our hearts in our thoughts and in our actions always and everywhere Blessings Deacon Dan
