PARISH AND COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNERERRARISH

We are getting ready to celebrate our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner once again and need your help! If you would like to donate food for the dinner, please take one of the trays in the back of church and sign your name in the corresponding list. (Turkeys will be available for pick up after Masses on the 13th and 14th of November). There is also a sign-up list for those who would like to volunteer during the dinner.

The dinner will take place on November 20th, from 12-4 PM.

¡Nos estamos preparando para celebrar una vez más nuestra Comida Anual de Acción de Gracias y necesitamos de su ayuda! Si le gustaría donar comida, por favor lleve una de las charolas que se encuentran en la parte trasera del templo y anote su nombre en la lista correspondiente. (Los pavos estarán disponibles para recogerse después de las Misas del fin de semana del 13 y 14 de noviembre. También hay listas para los que quieran ser voluntarios durante la comida.La comida será el día 20 de noviembre, de 12-4 PM.

El día martes, 2 de noviembre, el Padre Matt Koonan ofrecerá una Misa en español por los fieles difuntos en el cementerio católico, localizado en 3500 Lake Ave, Fort Wayne, IN 46805, a las 6 PM.

11...The important thing is that each believer discern his or her own path, that they bring out the very best of themselves, the most personal gifts that God has placed in their hearts (cf. 1 Cor 12:7), rather than hopelessly trying to imitate something not meant for them. We are all called to be witnesses, but there are many actual ways of bearing witness.

14. To be holy does not require being a bishop, a priest or a religious. We are frequently tempted to think that holiness is only for those who can withdraw from ordinary affairs to spend much time in prayer. That is not the case. We are all called to be holy by living our lives with love and by bearing witness in everything we do, wherever we find ourselves. Are you called to the consecrated life? Be holy by living out your commitment with joy. Are you married? Be holy by loving and caring for your husband or wife, as Christ does for the Church. Do you work for a living? Be holy by laboring with integrity and skill in the service of your brothers and sisters. Are you a parent or grandparent? Be holy by patiently teaching the little ones how to follow Jesus. Are you in a position of authority? Be holy by working for the common good and renouncing personal gain

16. This holiness to which the Lord calls you will grow through small gestures. Here is an example: a woman goes shopping, she meets a neighbor and they begin to speak, and the gossip starts. But she says in her heart: “No, I will not speak badly of anyone”. This is a step forward in holiness. Later, at home, one of her children wants to talk to her about his hopes and dreams, and even though she is tired, she sits down and listens with patience and love. That is another sacrifice that brings holiness. Later she experiences some anxiety, but recalling the love of the Virgin Mary, she takes her rosary and prays with faith. Yet another path of holiness. Later still, she goes out onto the street, encounters a poor person and stops to say a kind word to him. One more step.

32. Do not be afraid of holiness. It will take away none of your energy, vitality or joy. On the contrary, you will become what the Father had in mind when he created you, and you will be faithful to your deepest self...

34. Do not be afraid to set your sights higher, to allow yourself to be loved and liberated by God. Do not be afraid to let yourself be guided by the Holy Spirit. Holiness does not make you less human, since it is an encounter between your weakness and the power of God’s grace. For in the words of León Bloy, when all is said and done, “the only great tragedy in life, is not to become a saint”.[32]

11...Lo que interesa es que cada creyente discierna su propio camino y saque a la luz lo mejor de sí, aquello tan personal que Dios ha puesto en él (cf. 1 Co 12, 7), y no que se desgaste intentando imitar algo que no ha sido pensado para él. Todos estamos llamados a ser testigos, pero «existen muchas formas existenciales de testimonio».

14. Para ser santos no es necesario ser obispos, sacerdotes, o religiosos/as. Muchas veces tenemos la tentación de pensar que la santidad está reservada solo a quienes tienen la posibilidad de tomar distancia de las ocupaciones ordinarias, para dedicar mucho tiempo a la oración. No es así. Todos estamos llamados a ser santos viviendo con amor y ofreciendo el propio testimonio en las ocupaciones de cada día, allí donde cada uno se encuentra. ¿Eres consagrado/a? Sé santo viviendo con alegría tu entrega. ¿Estás casado? Sé santo amando y ocupándote de tu marido o de tu esposa, como Cristo lo hizo con la Iglesia. ¿Eres un trabajador? Sé santo cumpliendo con honradez y competencia tu trabajo al servicio de los hermanos. ¿Eres padre/madre o abuelo/a? Sé santo enseñando con paciencia a los niños a seguir a Jesús. ¿Tienes autoridad? Sé santo luchando por el bien común y renunciando a tus intereses personales.

16. Esta santidad a la que el Señor te llama irá creciendo con pequeños gestos. Por ejemplo: una señora va al mercado a hacer las compras, encuentra a una vecina y comienza a hablar, y vienen las críticas. Pero esta mujer dice en su interior: «No, no hablaré mal de nadie». Este es un paso en la santidad. Luego, en casa, su hijo le pide conversar acerca de sus fantasías, y aunque esté cansada se sienta a su lado y escucha con paciencia y afecto. Esa es otra ofrenda que santifica. Luego vive un momento de angustia, pero recuerda el amor de la Virgen María, toma el rosario y reza con fe. Ese es otro camino de santidad. Luego va por la calle, encuentra a un pobre y se detiene a conversar con él con cariño. Ese es otro paso.

32. No tengas miedo de la santidad. No te quitará fuerzas, vida o alegría. Todo lo contrario, porque llegarás a ser lo que el Padre pensó cuando te creó y serás fiel a tu propio ser…

34. No tengas miedo de apuntar más alto, de dejarte amar y liberar por Dios. No tengas miedo de dejarte guiar por el Espíritu Santo. La santidad no te hace menos humano, porque es el encuentro de tu debilidad con la fuerza de la gracia. En el fondo, como decía León Bloy, en la vida «existe una sola tristeza, la de no ser santos».
