From the Rector Very Rev. Joseph Tizio, C.Ss.R. Staffed by The Redemptorists I recently read an interesting thought: “Good manners precede and prepare the way for good deeds”. Do you think that is true? The writer goes on to say: “Morality is like a politeness of the soul, an etiquette of the inner life…” Being polite to one another means acknowledging the other’s humanity, treating another person with the dignity that they deserve as a human being. The bottom line for any moral life, regardless of any religious belief, is re- spect for the human person; in all our actions treating people with kindness and justice. However, the gospel does not call us to be merely polite, we are called above and beyond mere politeness! We are taught “The greatest among you will be the servant. Those who humbles themselves will be exalted and those who exalt themselves will be humbles” (Matthew 23: 11-12). We worship a Lord who “emp- tied himself and took the form of a slave…obediently accepting death, death on a cross” (Philippians 2: 7-8). Jesus commands us: “The command I give you is this, that love one another” (John 15:17). Jesus is not commanding that we be polite to one another but that we love one another. Certainly, when confronting injustice, the scriptures do not command us to be polite! When speaking to the Pharisees, Jesus says: “How can you utter anything good, you brood of vipers, when you are so evil” (Matthew 12:34). Again, in Matthew Jesus says: “Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you frauds! You shut the doors of the Kingdom of God in peoples’ faces, neither entering yourselves nor admitting those trying to enter” (Matthew 23 13-14). One thing is clear, Jesus never commanded his followers to do just the minimum, he called us to follow his example of love to death on a cross. MASS INTENTIONS FROM THE RECTOR

Profession of Faith

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man,

death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accor-dance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is

believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sinsand I look forward to the resurrection of the deadand the life of the world to come. Amen.
