Responsible Learners
Welcome to Year 3 at Doonside Public School.
The year has begun with a group of very eager Primary students. Already their attitude to learning and their industrious work habits are producing real growth and development.
A variety of strategies will be used to assess each student's work. These may include tests, discussions, observing their work in class and looking closely at the work they produce throughout the year.
A written report will be sent home near the end of Term 2 and Term 4, to give you a clear picture of your child's achievements.
NAPLAN
This year your child will participate in the Year 3 NAPLAN assessment.
National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy(NAPLAN) - assesses students' skills in numeracy, reading, writing,
spelling, punctuation and grammar. All students in Years 3 and 5 sit for four tests in May.
NAPLAN results help teachers meet the individual literacy and numeracy needs of your child with a written report.
READING
Learning to read is a complex process. For children to read well, they need to develop a range of reading strategies. Reading and writing are closely connected. When children learn to read and write, they learn about how language is used for different purposes and different audiences. 3G has 4 structured reading groups during the morning session. Guided readers at the appropriate levels are used to teach the skills of reading well. In the afternoon we are studying a novel titled The Burrambi Kids. It is a great story set in the Northern Territory.
