Jason’s Message Dear families and friends of Bell P-10 State School, This week staff at Bell State School will be undertaking First Aid training as part of our requirement to be employed in the Department of Education. Our Year 10 students will also be competing their Frist Aid Certificate so that when they leave Bell State School they have this training completed. Last Friday Bell State School had a visit from Tania Leach from the University of Southern Queensland to interview myself as well as visit classrooms. Tania has been working with Dr Lyn Sharratt who we have been guided by the last couple of years and our school was chosen as a case study of how a school has implemented this process and what steps we will continue to implement in the years to come. Tania has interviewed a number of schools in the region and will take our school s research to a conference in Morocco next year and will also be part of a new book in the coming years. The interview with Tania on Friday will lead to a presentation I will give in mid-August outlining the process we have followed at Bell. This is some great recogni- tion for the hard work our staff have performed in the last couple of years. After School Sport This term we have secured the services of a soccer coach to come to Bell on a Tuesday afternoon starting from next week. Richard Mitchell has coached soccer at Bell in the past and we are lucky to gain his services again. More information about the coaching session will come out in a letter later this week. At this stage Richard will be able to visit our school for around 6 weeks. Attendance Our attendance rate has had a strong start for Term 3 currently sitting at just over 90%. Traditionally Term 3 we see a lot of illness in the school so it is important to notify the office of your childs absence. It is a requirement of schools to seek an explanation for an absence every day and at Bell State School we use an SMS messaging service for any student that is absent without a reason. Have a good week, Jason. 90 Dennis Street BELL Q 4408 Email: [email protected] Web: https://bellss.eq.edu.au Main Phone (07) 4679 2333 Student Absences (07) 4679 2366 Fax (07) 4663 1249 Newsletter Term 3 Week 2 24th July 2019 Date Claimers JULY 24th P&C Meeting 28th Bell Bunya Bike Ride Meeting 30th After School Soccer 31st Book Club Due AUG 2nd Principal’s Day 6th Prep-2 Possum Magic 18/19th Bell Bunya Trail Bike Ride SEPT 9/10/11 Yrs 5/6 Camp THANK YOU! Book Club Book Club Orders due Wednesday 31st July. We’ve all probably read the quotation - If you read one book a day to your child for the first 5 years of their life, you will have read 1825 books with them by the time they turn 5. No doubting this would be time very well spent, but in todays busy world we may struggle to find that much spare time. Keep in mind if you could read with your child 3 times a week, they will have had over 600 books read with them by the time they turn 5!

Zone 4 Western Downs Rugby League In the 2nd week of the July school holidays I participated in the 11-12 yrs Zone 4 Rugby League competition in Ipswich. I played as a forward in the Jandowae Rugby League team. Our team played from Sunday to Friday and had a rest day on the Wednesday. We won 4 games, drew one, and won the competition! It was an amazing learning experience playing against and with other players of a higher standard in the Zone 4 level. Pat Coleman
