B. SANCTIFICATION

Implications of Sanctification (Romans 8:9-11):1. CONTROLLED by the SPIRIT and not by the SINFUL nature (v. 9)Romans 8:9, “You, however, are

controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.”

2. Our Spirit will LIVE and not DIE (v. 10)

Implications of Sanctification (Romans 8:9-11):

Romans 8:10, “But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.”

Justification, sanctification, and adoption are different aspects of the same work of GRACE. They all occur at the same time and are part of the NEW BIRTH experience.

CONCLUSION

• In justification, God declares the sinner (that’s YOU) RIGHTEOUS admitting him to RECONCILIATION and PEACE;

• In sanctification, he (that’s YOU) is SET APART and DEDICATED to God; and

•In adoption, the JUSTIFIED and SANCTIFIED believer (that’s YOU again) is RECEIVED into the family of God.

Assignment:1. What then is our view of death? Are we afraid to die? Also, how much importance do we give our body and our spirit? What takes priority?2. How real is the hope of resurrection for us? Are we living as if this is all there is in life? Are we looking forward to eternal life in Christ?
