Standard Centurion™ C5 Transfer InstructionsIntroduction

The C5 Firmware and Configuration files are easily transferred to the C5-1 Controller using a USB type A to B cable (commonly used for printers) connected from your PC to the C5-1 Controller. Begin by opening the Centurion File Transfer Utility Tool on your PC desktop. If this is your first transfer, follow the procedure How to Download the Centurion File Transfer Utility Tool to Your PC and obtain a USB cable before starting a transfer.

The Centurion File Transfer Utility Tool is used when downloading Firmware and Configuration files to the controller and also uploading Configuration files to the PC.

Place the File Transfer Tool on your PC Desktop.

(4) A download will begin on your web browser. After the down-load is finished, click it to open and install the software.

(3) On the software download page, click on the link Centurion File Transfer Utility.

NOTE: If the file didn’t open, it may be stored in your download files. Once you locate it, click on the file to open it.

(1) On your PC, open https://www.fwmurphy.com.

(2) Under Resources and Support, click on Software Download.

If you are using a company PC, you may need administrative privileges on the PC to install this software. See your IT department if needed, and they may install it for you.

(5) Follow the instructions in the pop-up windows and choose Run, Next, Install, where applicable. Once you complete the second pop-up, an icon for the Centurion File Transfer Tool is placed on your desktop.

(c) On your desktop, locate this icon for the Centurion File Transfer Tool. Setup is complete.

(b) Second Pop-up, choose Next and follow instructions.

(a) First pop-up, choose Run and follow instructions.

Double clicking the Icon will open a pop-up menu.

The C5-1 option buttons in the pop-up menu will not become selectable until communication between your PC and C5-1 is live.

To do this, connect a USB cable to the PC and the C5-1 controller then power ON. The following procedures are steps using this Centurion File Transfer tool in detail.

How to Download a Configuration File to Your C5-1 Controller

For this procedure you will need:

• USB cable long enough to reach from your PC to the controller. • Centurion File Transfer Utility Tool on your PC. See How to Download the Centurion File Transfer Utility Tool, if

not previously done. • The new Configuration file (.XML) saved on your PC. We suggest you save a copy to your desktop for easy

access when you download it. You may have received the file via email from FW Murphy support.

Download the Configuration File

(2) On PC desktop, click on the icon for the Centurion File Transfer Utility. The tool will appear in a pop-up menu.

(a) Under the Heading C5 Configuration, click on Download to C5-1 Controller. Another pop-up appears.

(b) Locate and select the Centurion Configuration (XML) file you saved on your PC. A progress bar will ap-pear in the pop-up menu tool - Sending Data to Unit.

(c) Once the pop-up confirmation Done box opens, click OK. Click Close to close the transfer tool.

(4) Turn power OFF on the controller for 5 seconds then turn it back ON.

(3) Disconnect the USB cable.


(1) To download the Configuration file to the C5-1 Controller to your PC: Connect the USB cable to PC and the Controller C5-1. (The controller must be ON.)

(5) Verify the new Configuration on the Information Page. To get there from the Gage page (Home), press the PREV icon to page backward until you reach the Information page.

Upload the Configuration File


(a) Under the Heading C5 Configuration, click on Upload from C5-1Controller. A progress bar will appear in the pop-up menu tool - Receiving Static Data.

(c) Another pop-up appears asking for permission to save the XML file. Choose a location for the file and save it to your PC. You may rename the file if needed before saving it.

(d) Click Close to close the transfer tool.

(3) Upload is complete. Disconnect the USB cable.


How to Upload a Configuration File to Your PC

(1) To Upload the Configuration file to your PC: Connect the USB cable to PC and the Controller C5-1. (The controller must be ON.)

(1) On your PC,

open https://www.fwmurphy.com.

(3) On the software download page, click on the link http://forum.fwmurphy.com.

(a) To register, click register and follow the instructions.

(4) Enter your username and password to log in to the Forum.

(d) Wait for the approval to arrive in your email. Once you have the approval, you may log in.

(b) Agree to the terms.

(c) Fill out the form including creating your own password and username and click the submit button.

How to Register for FW Murphy Centurion Forum Access

Once registered, you have free and private customer access to files for downloading the entire Centurion product family when updates are released by FW Murphy. In addition, our Forum privately gives online support to Centurion customers.If this is your first time on the Forum, you will need to register and wait for approval to enter the website.

How to Download a Firmware File to Your C5-1 Controller and Display


• USB cable long enough to reach from your PC to the main controller.

• Centurion File Transfer Utility Tool on your PC. See How to Download the Centurion File Transfer Utility Tool, if not previously done.

• The new firmware (BIN) file on your PC. See Download New Firmware File to PC.

NOTE: After installing a new firmware file on the controller, check the FW Murphy Centurion Forum for possible display firmware updates as well.

(d) Select the firmware file you wish to download.

(c) Select Utilities and Software Downloads.

(f) Double click on the Zip file to view the BIN file. Copy/paste the BIN file to your PC desktop for easy access when you download to the C5-1 Controller.

(1) To get the Firmware file from the Forum: On PC go to http://forum.fwmurphy.com and open the Forum. Enter your username and password to log in.

(a) If not yet registered, please see How to Register for FW Murphy Centurion Forum Access.

(b) If you already have the Firmware file saved on your PC, skip to the next procedure—Download New Firmware to C5-1 Controller.

(e) Click to download. Save the Zip file to your PC to a known location. It typically defaults to a Downloads folder.

(a) Under the Heading Firmware, click on Update C5-1 Firmware (BIN). Another pop-up appears.

(b) Locate and select the BIN file you saved on your PC desktop. A progress bar will appear in the pop-up menu tool showing data is sending to unit.

(c) Once the pop-up confirmation Done box opens, Click OK. Click Close to close the transfer tool.



(4) Follow the procedure below that matches your display model. Then reboot your system again.


(1) To download the firmware file to the Controller: Connect the USB cable to PC and the Controller C5-1. (The controller must be ON.)

Download New Firmware File to M-VIEW® Touch Display

(1) On PC go to http://forum.fwmurphy.com and open the Forum. Enter your username and password to login.


(b) If you already have the image.mvi file saved on your PC, skip to step 2.

(c) Click on the Utilities and Software Downloads.

(d) Click on the M-VIEW Touch Series Databases for Centurion C5-1.

(e) Click on the Zip file link that matches the size of your display screen. A download file will appear in the lower left corner of your PC screen. Click it to download. Save the Zip file to your PC.

(2) Double click on the Zip file to view the image.mvi file. Copy/paste the image.mvi file to a USB thumb drive. See NOTE below. Do not change the file name. The file must be named image.mvi.

(3) Plug the USB thumb drive into the bottom of the display. The update process will automatically begin and take approximately 4 minutes. The display will reboot and land on the (Home) Gage page when complete.

Always check the FW Murphy Centurion Forum for possible firmware updates after you update firmware in your C5-1. Simply install the latest image file to a Flash Disk USB Device (thumb drive) and insert it in the bottom of the display to automatically update the display. Details are listed below.

(5) You may view the firmware version on the Information Page. To get there from the Home page (Gage), press the PREV icon to page backward until you reach the Information page.

(4) Once complete and you see the home page, remove the thumb drive from the display.

NOTE: An SD Card must be installed on the display to complete this process. Use a thumb drive formatted as a Flash Disk USB Device for this procedure. You can check a thumb drives format once its plugged into a USB port in your PC. In Windows explorer, right click on the file, click properties, click Hardware. It must list as a Flash Disk USB Device. Any USBs formatted as UDisk Device will not work.

The white FW Murphy USBs are formatted as a Flash Disk USB Device and can be used with FW Murphy products.

Download New Firmware File to MV-5-C Display

(c) Click on the Utilities and Software Downloads.

(d) Click on the M-VIEW Touch Series Databases for Centurion C5-1.

Always check the FW Murphy Centurion Forum for possible firmware updates after you update firmware in your C5-1. Simply install the MV-5 Display firmware into the C5-1 Controller, which will automatically update the display. Details are listed below.

(2) Connect the USB cable to PC and the Controller C5-1. (The controller must be ON.)


(a) Under the Heading Firmware, click on Store MV5 (BIN) in C5-1. Another pop-up appears.

(b) Locate and select the BIN file you just put on your desktop. A progress bar will appear in the pop-up menu tool - Sending Data to Unit.





(e) Click on the latest release of the Centurion MV-5 display firmware Zip file link. A download file will appear in the lower left corner of your PC screen. Click it to download. Save the Zip file to your PC. Double click on the Zip file to view the BIN file. Copy/paste the BIN file to your PC desktop for easy access when you down-load to the C5-1 Controller.

(1) On PC go to http://forum.fwmurphy.com and open the Forum. Enter your user name and password to login.

Updating MV-5-C Display Firmware When C5-1 is Not Present

This procedure installs the firmware directly to the display and is only required if instructed by our FW Murphy Technical Support team. FW Murphy will supply the firmware. Simply install the firmware directly to the MV-5-C display. Details are listed below.

(2) Connect the USB Cable to PC and the Display. Remove the USB cap if needed to gain access to the USB port on the back of the display. (The display must be ON.)

(3) On PC desktop, click on the icon for the Centurion File Transfer Utility. The tool will appear in a pop-up menu. Centurion

(1) Copy/paste the MV-5 Firmware BIN file to your PC desktop for easy access when you download to the dis-play.

(a) Under the heading MV-5 Firmware, click on Update MV5 Display (BIN) . Another pop-up appears.
