Multi-Purpose Decontamination System

1. Technical description

The MPDS 2 is a new generation of decontamination systems. A multi-purpose device that has been tailored to the needs of our customers. With just one unit, the main requirements of a vehicle cleaning and decontamination site can be met.

The various surface decontamination applications such as deradiation, detoxification and decontamination can all be performed with just one device. The device is very compact, can be operated independently as well as intuitively.

The application possibilities of cold water, hot water and heated steam with high pressure result in various application possibilities in the cleaning and decontamination sector. A dosing technology for high-pressure applications is already integrated in the basic unit. The device can be extended by further application techniques through accessories.

1.1. Flexible dosing options

MPDS 2 with basic functions

Two dual injectors are already integrated in the basic version. This means that the independent addition of many aqueous cleaning or decontamination agents is also possible on a two-component basis (e.g. BDS 2000). In parallel double lance operation, independent work with and without dosing at the respective lances is thus possible at any time. It is even possible to apply two different agents at the same time with the same device, as shown as an example in the figure above. The upper lance schematically shows the dosage of a detergent component. The lower lance shows the schematic dosing of a cleaning agent consisting of two components.

A colour code on the suction hoses prevents confusion during operations when using different cleaning agents and decontamination chemicals. The hoses are connected to the unit with quick couplings.

1.2. Work facilitation

With the MPDS 2, new spray guns (EASY!Force Advance) are delivered which require less force and thus enable fatigue-free working, especially under protective clothing. The Inno Foam lances, which are also included in the basic version, enable a quick change between high-pressure cleaning and foam application by means of a switch button directly on the lance. This makes it easy to switch between foam application (with agent) and high-pressure applications (without agent). The spray guns as well as the complete unit are also equipped with a quick coupling system, which enables an easier and quicker assembly of accessories.

1.3. Self-sufficiency

The MPDS 2 has a diesel engine with a coupled integrated power generator. The generator as well as the high-pressure pump are driven by the diesel engine. The additional power of this generator can be used to operate external equipment (e.g. lamps for lighting a decontamination site). Power generation can be controlled by a magnetic coupling and is independent of high-pressure operation.

1.4. Extensions

Optional accessories that can be integrated in and on the device enable simultaneous 3-lance operation. With this accessory, pre-treatment, main treatment and post-treatment (as is usual for decontamination, e.g. of vehicles) can be carried out simultaneously by only one device. Without accessories in the basic equipment a simultaneous 2-lance operation is possible.

An additional application pump (e.g. for GDS 2000) can optionally be connected to the generator already integrated in the unit and can be integrated in the housing. The device is therefore completely self-sufficient and requires no additional electrical supply for a wide range of cleaning and decontamination tasks.

By adding appropriate accessories and variations to the auxiliary pump, almost any cleaning or decontamination agent available on the market can be discharged.

1.5. Logistics

The compact design allows universal use as a stand-alone unit or integration into decontamination systems such as platform-based systems or the CAGE system. The device is constructed on the basis of a tubular steel frame movable by fork lift, which complies with the standardised dimensions of a Euro pallet. The MPDS 2 can therefore be transported with the help of a lift truck or forklift truck. With optional accessories, the unit can be additionally craned or moved to the operation site by adding a wheel set.

1.6. Usability

The diesel engine of the MPDS 2 is electrically started via the central control panel of the MPDS 2 and has an automatic pre-heating device.

A central program selector switch on the control panel can be used to map various operating scenarios of the device. This switch allows a selection of the temperature range during high pressure applications. It can be choosed between cold water, hot water (60 °C) and hot steam (140 °C). The upright arranged burner then automatically ensures optimum heat distribution. A installed protection against water shortage ensures that the burner switches off automatically when the water flow is too low.

In contrast to the other temperature ranges, hot steam operation is only possible with one lance for safety reasons.

The program selector switch can also be used to recall fixed programs that provide optimal conditions for the use of Futuretech decontamination agents for de-radiation, detoxification and disinfection. Thanks to its innovative operating concept, the MPDS 2 is a multi-purpose device that can be operated intuitively and safely.

1.7. User-friendliness

The unit is completely covered to protect the operators and to be able to clean the device better. The cladding elements can be easily dismantled and re-assembled for maintenance and repair work using a quick-release system.

All components of the system are designed to be as low-maintenance as possible. For example, a gearbox is included instead of a wear-prone and maintenance-intensive belt drive.

The device has an integrated system to protect the heating coil against calcification.

The level of the protection agent against calcification is automatically monitored. Monitoring the levels of other consumables is also possible with optional accessories.

In addition, the MPDS 2 has an integrated electronic fault analysis. This makes repair, maintenance and repair work much easier and more efficient.

1.8. Refuelling

A fuel tank is integrated in the device which is equipped with an analogue level indicator. At the same time, the filling level of the tank is permanently recorded electronically. If the level of the integrated tank falls below 25 % of the filling volume, a warning is displayed on the control panel of the device. This allows the device to be supplied with fuel promptly allowing continuous operation. Optionally available accessories also enable refuelling via a directly connected NATO fuel canister (also with level sensor) or a refuelling system.

1.9. Summary

An integrated power generator, an optional pump (removable) for non-aqueous decontamination chemicals and the permanently integrated dual 2-component dosing device make the diesel powered MPDS 2 a stand-alone, independently usable decontamination and cleaning system.

The MPDS 2 is ideal for operations with the entire spectrum of Kärcher Futuretech cleaning and decontamination agents.
