All representatives from our team are Russian, country #8 when it comes to prison population rate per 100,000 of the national population - 502. Criminal culture is deeply embedded in criminal code, music (chanson), tattoos, anecdotes, etc. One of our worst ideas was to organize a diversified strategy asset management firm for the gangs ‘obshak’ (money earned from criminal related activities) – a multibillion dollar opportunity. Since we needed to comply with Russian law, we gave up the idea of managing money of thieves in law (high ranking status within the criminal underworld). We will only accept investees who pass the background check procedure and are able to prove money was earned in the course of legal activities. Still few asset managers would take money of people with criminal record. We would be able to position ourselves as an asset management firm with no prejudices and thus secure a winning position in this niche industry.TRANSCRIPT
