Hello Henry!

I’m in South Korea.

Page 2: Stanley in korea

I am having such a wonderful time.

But, WOW – it took a long time to fly there!

Did you know I was on a plane for 14 hours!

South Korea is on the other side of the Earth!

When it is day time in New Jersey, it is night time in

Korea. So when you go to school, I go to sleep!

My friend Stephen picked me up at the airport.

We drove to his house in Daegu, South Korea.

He lives in a very tall building.

Here is a picture from his apartment

Stephen is a really great guy!

Here is a picture of the Korean Flag. It has the

same colors as our flag but with special symbols.

The red and blue in the middle mean “perfect

balance”. The lines mean many things like “Sky,

Moon, Sun, and Earth”

I have made a lot of friends in Korea! The

people are very nice. Here I am with my

friend Jin Hee.

I met Jin Hee at

Stephen’s work. He is

a university professor.

He teaches design.

I went to a class that

Stephen teaches. We

learned all about

space and color.

I made the painting in this picture. Did you know

that you can create all of the colors in this picture

only using red, yellow, blue, black, and white!

Here I am at Stephen’s studio. This is where

we made the color painting. I love painting!

One day we went to a Buddhist temple. Here I am

with one of the Temple guards (he looks scary, but

he was very nice!)

Here I am with the Buddha statues. The temples are

very colorful and peaceful.

I was very lucky because I went to the temple on a

special day. It was Buddha’s birthday!

In Korea this is a big holiday.

No one goes to school or work.

Here is a picture of all of the colorful lanterns for

the birthday celebration. At night these all light up.

It is very beautiful!

The Korean people really enjoy looking at beautiful

flowers. On the weekend many people will go

walking in the mountains.

I went walking and found these!

But the flowers that are

most special are the Cherry

Blossoms. These only bloom

one time a year for a very

short time. This happens in

April. This is another very

big event in Korea.

I climbed one of the trees

with the Cherry Blossoms.

Most nights we eat at a restaurant. My favorite

places to eat serve Korean BBQ. It is so much fun

because you cook the food right in the middle of the

table!

Page 18: Stanley in korea

And, when you eat – no one gets a plate! Everyone

just eats from the same dishes on the table.

But, the best part is we don’t use forks – we use

metal sticks! See them on the table?

The food is soooooooo good!

And finally, my favorite thing to do in Korea is to go

to the singing rooms. They are called “Nori-Bong”

Oh – did I tell you the Koreans use a different

alphabet! They do, the sign above says “Nori-bong”
