Learning Ethos

At Stanton Harcourt Church of England School we aim to provide a personalised education which brings out the best in every child, builds on their strengths and enables them to develop a life-long love of learning. We ensure that all learning is taught enthusiastically through a range of real and creative experiences, taking into account individual learning styles. We believe that the motivation for learning is promoted

through a child centred, enquiry based approach which celebrates the success and achievement of all. We work with the children in a safe learning environment where everybody is equal. Children are taught how to collaborate and work as part of an effective team so that they grow into confident citizens valued for the contribution they make to society.

The governing body consists of parent governors, community governors, local authority governors, foundation governors and staff governors.The governors support the head teacher and staff and act as a critical friend for the school.Each governor sits on two sub-committees and has an area of interest linked to school development.They support many school events and activities.

SCHOOL COUNCIL AND ECO COMMITTEE

The school has both a School Council and Eco Committee which are run by teachers. They meet regularly and help in lots of ways, promoting bullying awareness, helping to choose new play equipment, carrying out surveys, collecting rubbish and talking to visitors. They are even involved in school development, running book and cake stalls and appointing new staff! All improving the pupil voice within our school.

Sports day

INTER HOUSE SPORTS DAY

The whole school from the foundation stage to year 6 is split into four different house groups; Cherwell, Evenlode, Windrush and Isis. Each year the houses compete for the sports day trophy.

The school holds many events and festivals throughout the year. In June the whole village spend the afternoon on the school field whilst the school hosts the Village Summer Festival.

FOSHSThe Friends of Stanton Harcourt school are members of the school community who help organise and run fund raising events. There are many events throughout the year; the Christmas fair, the Summer Festival, discos and jumble sales.

ShoesPlease be aware that children will run and play in their school shoes and so these should be sensible, flat-heeled (black or navy) or plain black trainers but please no white, multi-coloured or flashing types. Wellies can be worn in the winter or sandals in the summer. We do not operate an indoor shoe policy. Children are not allowed on the field when it is wet.

HOMEWORK

Homework is an opportunity for parents to learn more about what is being learnt in school. It provides a great opportunity for parents to become involved with the children’s learning.

A healthy attitude to playtime.

SCHOOL MEALS

All school meals are cooked on the premises. There is always a choice of vegetables or salad so our meals are healthy as well as delicious.

The school menu changes most terms and we often have special meals to celebrate important events such as, Chinese New Year, Bonfire Night, St George’s day and Christmas Lunch.

At play time there is a snack bar where healthy drinks and snacks can be bought every day.

Stanton Harcourt Church of England Primary School values the abilities and achievements of all its pupils, and is committed to providing for each pupil the best possible environment for learning.We recognise the entitlement of all pupils to a balanced, broadly based curriculum. Our SEN policy acknowledges the need for teaching that is fully inclusive. The Governing Body ensures that appropriate provision is made for all pupils with SEN.

Pupils with disabilities

Pupils with disabilities are admitted in line with Oxfordshire’s admission procedures and we are keen to liaise with parents and support agencies to make any reasonable adjustments to ensure any pupil with a disability can access the full range of educational opportunities offered by the school.The school building is adapted to maximise access. We also have disabled toilet facilities. The school has a costed plan for further improvements to the premises and is currently updating its Accessibility Plan, to be incorporated in a Disability Equality Scheme in line with Disability Discrimination Act. This will be available from the school office.

Child Protection

At Stanton Harcourt Church of England Primary School, we recognise that your child is our responsibility and concern. We want to work in partnership with you, and discuss with you, any concerns we may have or that you may have.

Since our first priority is your child’s welfare, there may be rare occasions when our concern about your child means that we have to consult other agencies even before we contact you.The Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board has laid down the procedures we follow, and the school has adopted a Child Protection Policy in line with this for the safety of all.If you want to know more about our procedures or the policy, please call into the school office.

Charging policy

Schools are not allowed to charge directly for activities during the school day, apart from residential visits. However, it is in order to invite voluntary contributions to fund activities that are additions to the normal school curriculum, eg, trips outside school, theatre groups in school, etc. Clearly, there are many such activities during the year which help to make the children’s time at school more enjoyable and purposeful. We hope that parents will be willing to contribute towards the costs involved – we do make every effort to keep costs as low as possible.
