July 8, 2018– 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel we read of a serious
breakdown in communication between Jesus and
His townspeople. It was so serious that Jesus was
literally unable to perform any miracles there.
This is one of the most shocking statements in all
the Gospels – that Jesus could not perform
miracles. It is impossible for Jesus to perform
miracles in a situation where there is no faith.
Today’s Gospel is a sad story of people
who met Jesus and left without a blessing. As we
meet Jesus today in His Word and in His
Sacraments let us resolve not to leave without a
blessing by believing in the power of God’s love
and compassion.
Our faith, which was handed over to a
group of people, the Apostles, is God’s gift to us.
Let us use it to love God more dearly and serve
Him constantly in our needy brothers and sisters.
Amen.
From Fr. Steve

OUR CIRCLE OF PRAYER
PLEASE PRAY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE DIED
Cybercrime is hitting dioceses nationwide. If/when you receive an email that shows the parish’s pastor or a parish priest as the sender requesting you to purchase a gift card, rest assured it is a scam. Parishioners can and should contact the parish to verify the legitimacy of any suspicious request received through email. All cybercrime should be reported to the FBI at https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx. It is up to the victim of cyber-crimes to file complaints.

We always need help with the honor guard, to ensure that Jesus is never left alone. We are in most need of
help for the hours between 12:00 and 2:00 PM. In order to keep the doors open all day for walk-in prayer
warriors, we need to ensure we have enough people signed up for specific hours. Thank you for your help in
keeping Adoration going for Star of the Sea. If you would like to sign up for an hour, please contact Dick & Sue
Meeker at [email protected]

Bottled Water Migrant Ministry: The camps are up and running. We ran into our good friend Gregory! He and his friends greeted us warmly. A few of the other men in the camp remembered us from last year, and there were one or two new comers. The were very excited and grateful about all the gifts we brought. They just arrived on Saturday so had not worked much yet. The groceries were a pleasant surprise as their refrigerator and pantry were pretty bare. We also gave them some basic toiletry items and much needed fans as this camp does not have AC. Since we had such an over abundance of clothes from last year, they were each able to get three or four shirts each instead of the usual one. As we were leaving one of the gentlemen said they would say a prayer for us in our travels to the other camps we are visiting. We are low on sheets this year. Most of the camps do not provide linens so many of the workers are sleeping on bare mattresses. There is one gentleman who needs size 4x or 5x shirts. We do not have any that size so if you know any one who could donate some it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued prayers and generosity.

Peace & Justice: Continue to pray the Rosary and always know that with God, all is possible! Even though our daily struggles and challenges in life can be overwhelming, we can always have faith in God’s love for us at all times. Faith is having the courage to know God is in control and thanking Him in advance! Footprints In The Sand One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it: "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me." The LORD replied: "My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
