Social media can also take up an extraordinary amount of time, to the point where connecting with others via social media takes away from the time we connect with family in our own house! At some point we need to take a step back and ask ourselves how important are some of the events and activities we take on. Are these events enjoyable and life-giving, or do they drain energy from us? Would we be lesser people if we let some of them go? We used to live in a house with apple trees in the backyard. These would need pruning each year or else the trees would become cluttered and the apples would not be as good. So it is with our lives. If we want to produce good “fruit” in our lives, we need to be prepared to do some pruning every once in a while and let some things go. At Star of the Sea we need to constantly ask ourselves what is important. School life can easily become cluttered and we can lose sight of what the purpose of some things are, or why we are even at school! From the Principal On Saturday there was a Garage Sale held in the hall, with the money going towards the work of Vinnies. Quite a number of people were happy to go through their cupboards and garages and find items they no longer wished to keep and didn’t want any money for themselves.

Our family did the same and managed to clear out a few things which hadn’t been used for a number of years and were only taking up space. We don’t live in a huge house and we were feeling very cluttered with some of the items hanging around the house that were of no use anymore. It brought a great deal of satisfaction to have the items removed, and if someone else can find a use for them then that’s great.

Sometimes we need to hold a Garage Sale of our lives. Our lives become very cluttered with all of the things we take on

and before we know it we don’t have enough time to do anything well. Or, worse still, we don’t have enough time for the things we used to enjoy.

Modern society doesn’t help, with lots of different people and events competing for our time. It is not unusual for people to say that they don’t have a free weekend between now and Christmas.

By being good examples of “pruners” we can model for our students not to get attached to the unimportant and instead to focus on what really matters. Mr Richard Chapman

On Sunday, at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, Australians around the country paused to remember 100 hundred years since the end of World War One. Remembrance Day marks the signing of the armistice agreement that led to the silencing of the guns on the Western Front. The hostilities of World War One had ended at a cost of millions of lives, including 62,000 Australians.

In England the Combined Churches are marking 100 years since the end of World War One with one hundred days of prayers for peace, hope and reconciliation. Remembrance Day is a time to honour all who suffered and died in wars protecting the freedom of others. Remembrance Day is also a reminder to us to pray for peace, and to think about what we are doing personally, as a community and a nation to bring God’s peace into the world. Let peace be on our lips and in our hearts every day.

A Prayer for Peace

God of peace you call us to peace Peace before us and peace behind us

Peace on our right and peace on our left. Christ of Peace you call us to peace, Peace with our brothers and sisters,

Peace with our neighbours and with the stranger Spirit of peace you call us to peace,

Peace in work and play Peace in thought and deed Peace in word and action

Grant us peace O God of peace

Congratulations

Congratulations to Rebecca and her family on the birth of Axel, a young brother for Macklin and Savannah, and to Rozina and her family on the birth of Lincon, a young brother for Sabian. Two beautiful additions to the Star of the Sea family.

Grade 5/6 Camp

Our Grade 5s and 6s are very excited about their camp to Dodges Ferry coming up next week from Tuesday to Thursday. During this time the Primary school will run as normal as possible, but there will be no Playgroup Wednesday morning or Primary Assembly on the Thursday afternoon..

TPSSA Swimming

Good luck to all of our students who will be competing in the TPSSA Swimming Carnival tomorrow at the George Town Pool.

Lockdown

Today we held a practise full lockdown at recess to test our responses should a real one be called for. We will reflect on how we went and put changes into place if necessary.

Remembrance Day

Thank you to the students who represented the College on Remembrance Day on Sunday. Their presence, and the way they presented themselves, was very much appreciated.

FAMILY AND SCHOOL WORKING TOGETHER

Sometimes our children’s lives can be very cluttered and we think we are doing them a favour by involving them in lots

of different activities. But it is not always the case. To help our children bear “good fruit” we may need to do a little

pruning in their lives, too.

After many issues with the weather and lines, the Star Academy of Sport Athletics Carnival was held at South George Town Primary School yesterday. It was a fantastic day highlighted by having our entire K-10 group together to celebrate a day of being active. I would like to thank all staff for their efforts on the day and recognise our young leaders Briana Hinkley, Montannah Parker, Carissa Holz, Tayla Sands and Cooper Goodall who were tremendous in helping out on the day. Also to all the students, particularly our Year 9 group who help set up. Many thanks also to Joe Stepsys and Naomi Cox who went above and beyond to support the day. We also thank South George Town

Primary School for hosting us on the day.

We still have a few 2016 cookbooks at the College Office. With a variety of recipes from families and

staff, this book would be a great addition to any kitchen. $5 per book, but hurry, they wont last at this

price!
