In Our Parish
July 21st, 2019– 16th Sunday in Ordinary

Today’s Gospel talks about the two famous sisters, Martha and Mary. The Evangelist Luke presents Martha and Mary as two sisters who are both interested in the Lord, two women who both want to please the Lord. The difference between them is the manner in which they go about trying to please the Lord. However, we have to keep in mind that the point of the story is not to invite us to choose between being a Martha or a Mary. The true disciple/follower of Christ needs to be both Martha and Mary.
Let’s make sure then that we find time or that we spend time with God and with people and not just be so busy attending to our own needs and the needs only of people who are near and dear to us.
Let us keep on centering our lives on Jesus and let Him lead us to love and serve our neighbor. Let us keep on loving and serving the Lord as Mary and Martha did. Amen.

OUR CIRCLE OF PRAYER
PLEASE PRAY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE DIED
In May 2020, Father Steve will lead a Pilgrimage to the Holy Sites of Ireland, including a special stop at the Seminary of the first Bishop of Richmond. In honor of the Diocesan Bicentennial, Father Steve has arranged a stop in the Town of Kilkenny, where Patrick
Kelly studied before being ordained a priest in 1802. In 1820 Father Kelly was consecrated Bishop and came to Richmond to serve as our first Bishop. We will also visit the Cliffs of Moher and among many other Holy sites, we will visit the Shrine of our Lady of Knock. We celebrate Mass daily. Please contact Grace Jones at the Parish Office with questions or to sign up for this amazing Pilgrimage. Please come to the informational meeting on Sunday, July 21st at 3pm at the Church.

The feast day of St. Mary Magdalene is celebrated July 22nd. In 2016, Pope Francis proclaimed this to be a feast day as she was “Apostle of the Apostles”. Her feast day is a call for all Christians to "reflect more deeply on the dignity of women, the new evangelization, and the greatness of the mystery of divine mercy."
Pope Francis highlighted Christ's mercy toward Mary Magdalene who was a woman who was "exploited and despised by those who believed they were righteous," but she was loved and forgiven by Him. Her tears at Christ's empty tomb are a reminder that "sometimes in our lives, tears are the lenses we need to see Jesus."
Peace & Justice: Continue to pray the Rosary and remember how much God loves all of us!
Social Outreach: We str ive to help our needy brothers and sisters in our community with our food pantry at Social Outreach! It is a blessing to see our parish be a positive force in our community by helping the needy and homeless! Thank you so much for your support and may we continue to make an active difference! The following items are always greatly appreciated as they are very helpful to the individuals and families that come to Social Outreach: Toilet Paper Bottled Water Deodorant Jelly/Jams Sunscreen
Respect Life: Dur ing the week of July 21-27, 2019, the United States Conference for Catholic Bishops highlights Natural Family Planning (NFP) Awareness week. This year’s theme is “Love, Naturally!” To learn more about NFP, what it is, how it works, and how it can change your marriage, visit www.usccb.org/nfp.
Migrant Ministry The workers are finally starting to arrive! We had our first successful camp visit. We visited the Bayford camp. There are about 35 people including men and women along with a 10 month old baby girl. They were excited to receive their drawstring bag welcome kits which contain toilet paper, shampoo, hats, bandannas and other assorted toiletries. The baby got a diaper bag full of diapers, wipes, assorted baby toiletries and a nice fluffy towel. The donations we are in greatest need of currently are sheets, towels and toilet paper. Please keep the workers in your prayers as the weather has been miserably hot.
