Star Surfers
On Thursday this week, several children from Perranporth School hit the beach for the Newquay Schools Surf
Competition. The weather was a bit miserable but this didn’t seem to dampen the children’s surfing spirits as
they took to the waves. All of the children gave incredible performances and secured some top places. In fact
Seb and Will from Year 5 even made it through to the semi finals and finished the event in the top 6! An enor-
mous well done to all of those competing and a big thank you to the parents who came along to support!
Thank you!
Phonics - Open Morning
A huge thank you to all those who came along to the Phonics Open Morning this week. The
feedback from parents was very positive with people saying that they found the sessions very
helpful in understanding how we teach phonics and how they can better support their children at home with
reading. If you weren’t able to attend, don’t worry here is a link to a previous parent workshop that will give you
lots of helpful information on phonics at Perranporth School: https://www.youtube.com/watch?

Book Sale
Thank you very much to everyone who came along to support the FOPS Book Sale
in the Hall this Thursday afternoon. It’s brilliant to see the children so keen to pick up
some new reading material and enjoying lovely stories. The sale managed to raise
over £40 for the FOPS funds which goes back into directly supporting the children at
school. Thank you so much to the willing volunteers who put on such a brilliant sale!
Mud Kitchen - Donations
Over the summer our wildlife area at the front of the school had a makeover! We
now have a fantastic outdoor classroom with a wooden tepee, pond, class seating
and a mud kitchen. In order to make best use of this resource, we’re looking for do-
nations of pots, pans and cooking utensils for the mud kitchen. If you have any old
or unwanted items, please pass them onto your child’s teacher. Thank you very much!

We would like to invite parents and families to our Building Learning Power workshop on Tues 8th Oc-
tober. Our BLP ambassadors, along with Mr. Harris are looking forward to seeing you all at the work-
shop 3.30pm in the hall. This will be a great opportunity for parents to find out more about BLP, how it
can help your child learn and of course to see our ambassadors showcasing their BLP skills. All wel-
come! Just as people go to a gym to develop their physical fitness, children at Perranporth School
are now developing their learning fitness. In the same way that bodies can become fitter, so too can minds. Come
along on Tues 8th October to find out more!
Year 6 - Secondary School Transfers
A reminder to parents of children in Year 6 that secondary school transfer applications
must be completed by 31st October.

KS1 disco will be from 5-6pm and KS2 from 6.15-7.15pm. Come along in your scariest cos-
tume! Entrance fee of £2 will be payable on the door. There’ll be hot dogs on sale
along with cakes and an Unlucky Dip!

Oct, 50p per entry. Children can bring in their carved creations to display in the hall and
then be judged. There will be a winning prize for each class!
Coats in School
Now the wet weather seems to be upon us more frequently, please can we ask that parents ensure
their child comes to school with a coat. If the rain isn’t too heavy we do like to let the children get
some fresh air and have a run around at playtimes and lunchtimes. To do this children do need to have
a named rain coat available to them in school. Thank you.

Keep Perranporth Tidy - School Litter Pick
Our first ’School Litter Pick Day’ of this year is scheduled for Tuesday 15th October . On this
morning we are encouraging children to walk to school and collect litter on their route.
There will be a prize for the class who have the most contributions of rubbish that day - an
incredible trip to Suez Energy Recovery Centre! We hope that this morning will encourage
children to think more about littering problems, about not just walking past litter and ulti-
mately not dropping litter themselves. There will be two bins so that recyclable litter can
be correctly recycled, so please do feel free to separate whatever you find.
We hope as many of you as possible will join in with this exciting event and help keep our
streets litter free and inspire our children. We would like to say a huge thank you Faye Clif-
ton and Green and Blue for organising these brilliant litter picks and being so supportive of
our school and community! Thank you!
