PRINCIPAL - Mrs. Goll: Ps. 96:1: Sing to the Lord a new song. Oh, how I enjoyed the musical on Friday evening. Few things delight me more than hearing our precious students sing praises. Thanks, Mrs. Schatte & teachers & students for that uplifting message. Friday is our annual track meet. Join us if you can for a day of great competition and fun. Please remember sunscreen; it’s going to be a hot, sunny day. Also, school lunch will be served only for daycare and kindergarten. Students in the grades need to bring a lunch or bring money to buy a concession stand lunch. The end of the school year fast approaches. Students, remember to keep doing your best so we can end the year on a high note. MUSICAL: Thank you to all who attended the musical and shared your wonderful children with us. All children, from the actors to the choir, did a marvelous job showing us what it means to be a servant leader and lead like Jesus does. I was so proud of the children!

CHAPEL OFFERING: The chapel offering for April and May has been designated to Lutheran Relief for tornado victims in Harrisburg, Ill. Our first grade teacher Mrs. Adams’ father is ministering to that region.

YEARBOOK: It's time to order your 2011 - 2012 Yearbook. Please use the attached order form. Also, parents, if you have not submitted your pictures, now is the time. Be sure your student and his/her class is well represented. Yearbooks create wonderful memories. SUMMER CHILDCARE: We are now enrolling for summer child care! If you are interested or want information you can call the child care center at 762-1124.

PRE-SCHOOL – Ms. V: Happy May! The school year is winding down. Our last class is Monday, May 21st. We will be walking over to the Ponca City High School football field this Friday, May 4th to cheer our FLS track stars. The school picnic is May 18th. I will send a note home with the details. We are practicing writing our names so we will be ready for Prekindergarten and reviewing primary and secondary colors. The students are enjoying studying animals and their habitats. Stay cool!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN - Mrs. Kelly: Happy May! This school year has flown by; I can't believe we are in our last month of school. We finished our reading challenge on Friday. Both classes read a total of 523 books during March and April, Great Job, parents and students. We celebrated our success with an ice cream party yesterday. Our last book order for the year is due online or to me by this Friday. Thank you for ordering this year and helping us earn point for books and supplies for our classroom. Our last show and tell will also be

this Friday. Our am class will be going over to watch the track meet on Friday morning. We will be back in our building before class dismisses. There will be a concession stand for snacks if you would like to send money for your child to purchase a snack and drink. They should be able to get a drink and a snack for $3.00. Have a wonderful week!

KINDERGARTEN - Ms. Miller: Mrs. Miller is with her brother as he is dealing with cancer. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. Thanks, Mrs. Cargal, Mrs. Burden, Mrs. Ozbun, and Mrs. Mayer for helping our class through this time. FIRST GRADE- Mrs. Adams: This is a very busy week for first grade! Tuesday we visited second grade. Thank you so much second graders for having us over. We really enjoyed our time with you. Wednesday is our field trip to the Aquarium and Friday is the track meet. The track meet will start with devotion in the gym at 9:00. Please remember to bring your sack lunch. Our spelling words this week are: new, grew, drew, glue, blue, true, give, put, washes, fixes. We will be taking our test on Thursday. Our memory verse is "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins." Acts 2:38. SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy May! The “Favorite Place” reports were awesome! Thank you so much for helping your child succeed. Remember that the Track Meet is Friday. Hopefully many of you will be able to join us for the day. Please be sure your child has a lunch in throw away containers or money to buy lunch at the concession stand. You may also want to sunscreen your child for the day. It looks like it’s supposed to be hot! Happy May Birthday to Sam and Brylee! God’s Blessings, Dear Friends! We’re almost third graders! THIRD GRADE - Ms. Svajhart: Happy May, I hope this weather calms down for a bit. I want to thank all the parents for helping with the field trip yesterday. The kids had a blast and I am so proud of how respectful they were. This week: Memory: Ephesians 4:32 Spelling: Test on Friday; there are only 15 words this week. Reading: We are continuing to make our way through How to Eat Fried Worms. The kids are enjoying it! Book Report: Remember our Biography book report is due May 17th. If you have any questions, please let me know. Track Meet: This Friday, May 4th is our annual track meet. Please remember to bring money for lunch and also to wear your track shirts. FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Klein: The spring musical was delightful. What a message! Thank you to all of our singers, and especially to Mrs. Schatte and the 5th graders for long weeks of work. This is penny war week to benefit the Humane Society. Silver is used to deduct from other classes. We have few pennies and much silver. At this time ours would be a negative number. Thank you to our families that adopted chicks and everyone who went with us to the Pioneer Woman. This Thursday we go to Natural Resources Day. Several parents should file a new insurance form in the office. We also look forward to the track meet on Friday. The seventh grade will have plenty of concessions for a good lunch. Remember your sunscreen. We are now into the final three weeks to make our AR goals. Last day for testing is May 18. Several students should be doing some extra reading at home to make the goals. You do not want to miss out on the splash party! FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: Your children did a fabulous job in the musical Friday evening! They were precious, and I was so proud of them. We anxiously await our track meet Friday. It promises to be an awesome day! Tests this week include spelling and language on Thursday. Tuesday holds social studies test chapter 9. Have a blessed week!

Middle School

SPORTS: Attention 8th grade basketball players! Basketball tryouts are May 9th, 4:30-6:00 for boys

and May 10 3:30-5:30 for girls. Attention 6th and 7th grade softball players! Softball tryouts are May 17 and 18, 4:00-8:00 at the softball fields at West Middle School. Soccer tryouts for boys and girls are May 7, 3:30-4:30. Volleyball tryouts are May 3 and 4, 5:30-7:30 in the Senior High Gym.

STUCO: We're winding down to the end of the year, but your student council is still going strong. We're right in the middle of our penny war to raise money for the Humane Society. You still have Thursday and Friday to bring pennies (for your class's can) and silver (for the other class's cans). Remember...the winning class from each building will win an ice cream party that will be served by the student council members! Speaking of the Humane Society, stuco just got back this afternoon from working with the animals.

We all had a great time. Thanks, Mrs. Redwine, for getting us there and back. Did you change the date of the middle school dance on your calendar? The new date is Saturday, May 19, from 7:30 to 9:00. Dress is casual (school clothes are fine.) The theme is country, but we'll play a variety of music. Entry into the dance will be an "item" donation for the Humane Society (food, litter, etc.) We will include a list of needed items in next week's Starlites. Make plans to come celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of summer!

Mrs. Harbeson: The track meet is almost here! I think we're going to have perfect weather! Be sure to say thanks to Ms. Kristi in the office for getting everyone organized. She does a great job, and she does this on top of everything else that she does! Be sure to bring money for concessions on Friday. Remember that this is a 7th grade fund raiser for their Washington D.C. trip next year. Tomorrow we will be conducting our National Day of Prayer assembly at 2:30. Thanks, Mrs. Hanson and 7th grade, for organizing this. On to Language business...I want to encourage all students to get their assignments in to me by Friday. I think a few students think that school's over for the year. Well, let me tell you, it's not! We still have a lot to do. After this Friday, any assignment that is missing will receive a "0," so get busy. That's all for now...Blessings!

Mrs. Hanson: 6th Grade- The last test was more challenging than any of us would have thought. Everyone felt good going into the test, but all the information evaporated from our brains when we took it. SO... since this is important stuff, test corrections were made and scores will be improved based on the corrections. I am willing to spend a little more time on this chapter to solidify concepts because this is important stuff! 7th Grade- NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER is this Thursday, MAY 3. The 7th graders are leading an assembly in which every grade has prepared a prayer. Please join us, with the rest of the nation, in lifting our voices to God with prayers for the world, our country, our school, and our loved ones. We have tested out of our last chapter and are moving on to vertebrates. Which means we have frogs on the way! 8th Grade- We will be testing this week on Earth, sun, moon, and planets. Even though we are moving on, we are continuing to fill out our moon charts every night. This simply consists of drawing the appearance of the moon each night to track its phases. 8th graders also need to remember their cameras every Monday and Thursday.

Mrs. Ramsey: Welcome back 7th and 8th graders...we missed you! We are really giving these last three weeks a big push in math class. There is still a lot to learn, so we need to stay focused and work hard. Please sign up to help with the track meet concession stand; we need many workers for all the time slots. Soon we will be planning for the graduation dinner which the 7th graders serve. In His service...

Mr. Watters: The word is projects for both the 6th and 7th grades as the sixth grade has chosen an historical figure to impersonate and write a report. Seventh grade is choosing different countries of the world to write a paper and make a poster. 8th grade is analyzing the song made popular by Billy Joel, "We Didn't Start the Fire". No test this week. However all grades will have exams next week. Athletics-Track meet on Friday, please come and join the fun as we should have a great time. Countdown is definitely on for our students-14 days and counting. Please encourage your students to stay the course and finish the race strong.
