Reasons we have decided to react:

• Accidents caused by incautious drivers, that unfortunately ended with pedestrian injuries;

• Illegal races which are often “ organized” in this part of the city;

• Improper marks on the street (low quality of the special road paint);

• Low visibility due to the cars parked on the right side of the road

Kill the speed before it kills you back !

Motivation:

• We have chosen a section of „Ștefan cel Mare” Street , which is very exposed to pedestrian injury because, on both sides of the road are placed a highschool, „Anghel Rugină” College, respectively a secondary school, „Mihai Eminescu” School.

• We would also like to mention that at about 200 m from there, there is a traffic light interesection, where young and unconscious drivers use to „organize” races.

Do not encourage over limit speed!

Context

Partnerships:

• To gain credibility we will ask the help of:– the principles of both schools situated on the selected

area.– GRSP Society ( Iustina Diaconu).– ETSC ( Project Manager Ilyas Daoud).

• We must find some sponsors which are directly and involuntary involved in such problems, like:– SMURD(Executive Director)– Traffic Police Municipality (Chief in charge)– Common Transportation companies (the mayor: Mr.

Pavel Vasile);– Member of ERS Charter: ASIROM (The local manager )

Over limit speed can make you lose everything . . can you live with that?

• We can get some help from gas stations, not necessarily financial support but to help us promote the idea of safety roads;– PETROM, OMV;

• We could also have academic support from our university teachers. (prof. ing. Irina Lungu)With their help we can send our message faster and easier to our target group;

First solution: illusion of a policeman

• We will place a fake policeman on the margins of the square ;

• This model will imitate a real policeman that warn the drivers to slow down;

• It purpose is to remind the drivers to reduce speed because they are in a circulated area.

• We will try to convince the local traffic police to organize one or two days per month radar controls near to our fake policeman.

Your excessive speed may kill. Is it worth it?

Strategy

Second idea: adherent road paint

• The paint used to mark the road can create real problems to drivers. This is generally caused by the adherence of the paint to wheels;

• The solution that we have found, is to use a special road paint which contain a bigger % of rubber to improve the adherence;

• The lines will be drawn using a model so that they don’t cover the whole painted surface.

• This is also useful to increase the resistance to environmental conditions

Drive safe or handle the consequences !

Third idea: fake holes on the road• Using again the optical illusion

idea we can determine the drivers to slow down;

• This idea involves placing some stickers directly on the asphalt, on which are drawn 3D holes;

• The stickers must be resistant to severe conditions (atmospheric and mechanic);

• Those posters won’t have a negative physical impact on the drivers, they only make them reduce speed;

How many accidents is needed for us to react?

Other aspects of accidents: pedestrian’s fault

• The main reason why these accidents happen is the people’s choice to cross the street on unmarked areas.

• There are also unconscious pedestrians that do not pay attention when they cross the street, not knowing the fact that this could cost their life .

Choose life. Cross legal.

Solutions:

• A police line: The braid attention the pedestrians to

not cross the street on illegal places;

The line will be placed in the areas were people use to cross the street although the road isn’t marked;

Make sure that you have whole life ahead!

• A special sign: The purpose of this sign is to remind the pedestrian to look twice before crossing the street. It will be placed on the square of the street, near the zebra crossing.

4th idea: Education campaign: Experience it yourself!

• We will propose to the headmastersof the high school to organize asession for informing the studentsabout the consequences ofspeeding.

• The group target: 18-19 years oldstudents;

• We will prepare some role gameswith emotional impact; All speedlovers will play the victims roles (for1 hours they are not allowed to usetheir hands, or their legs, etc.)

• In the end they will receive somekind of diplomas that certificate thefact that they decided to react.

What is happening in this moment

• And even if we were we couldn’t save you from all this:

Don't fill those crosses with names!

• We are not Houdini

Things that you can do to prevent !

1. Drive, respecting the speed limits.

2. Don’t mix drinking with driving!

3. Pay attention while you’re driving!

4. Rest before going on the road!

The power of changing things is in your hand!

Penalties for those who break the law

• Depending on gravity of facts, besides contravention measures and driving license suspended, they should be engaged to make special psychological sessions;

• The penalty points are a very efficient method to reduce the number of people incapable to drive .

Follow your good instincts . . drive safe!

Timing• October:

Collecting data from police evidences with the number of negative events related to speed from the selected area.

• November:

raising funds to implement our project

providing the necessary materials ( finding specialized stores)

finding volunteers that could help as implement our project (students, specialists from traffic police)

• waiting for the “green light” to implement our project.

...until February we will implement our project.

Effectiveness of our mesures.

Tools:• The information package from STARS Camp

(signs lecture, infrastructure measures, lobbying techniques);

• Fake policeman made of plastic or another resistent and also cheap material;

• Yellow braid, rigid supports;• 3D stickers;• Metallic bar, metallic panel;• Paint; • Materials for our presentation.

Evaluation

• Checking the situation of the police braid;

• The policeman reports from the radar controls;

• a questionnaire about the impact of the special sign for the pedestrians ;

• Checking the group results;

Difficulties

• Negative attitude coming from the local authorities;

• Potential partners that don’t want to cooperate;

• Difficulties in obtaining the necessary authorization for implementing our project.

• Low budget;

• The distruction of the police braid;

• Bad response from students that participate at the special session;
