One Book One NebraskaSeward Memorial Library invites the community to share in a discussion of the book selected for the

2019 One Book One Nebraska program. Because Ted Genoways spoke in

the library last fall, he will not be returning this summer. On

Monday, July 8 at 7 p.m. the library will host a time to discuss the farming situation in Nebraska as presented by Ted Genoways in his book,

This Blessed Earth. Spend an evening of recognizing and

appreciating the hard work of our agricultural community. Discover

the challenges technology and politics have added to the lives of generational landowners. Please use the west entrance when you come to this event.

Summer Program Kick-Off PartyThe weather cooperated this year and the Summer Program Kick-Off Street Party was a success! Hundreds of children with their families joined the staff inside and outside the library for food, fun and festivities. The 2019 summer theme is “A Universe of Stories” and the library could not have held this event without the help of the following individuals and organizations:

    • Larry and Susan Biel, balloon artists• Four Corners Health Dept.• Pac N Save • Friends of Seward Library• The Avid Readers Band• Seward Police Dept. • Seward Volunteer Fire Dept.

Who is Reading More, the Readers from Mars or the Milky Way?Adults are frequently stopping at the front circula-tion desk to get cards punched, scratched tickets redeemed and to reach into the chocolate candy box. These readers are part of the group who has decided to compete with other adult readers within the Seward community. Participants are randomly divided into the Milky Way team and the Mars team with a Pizza Party promised for the team who reads the most books by July 27. It is not too late to join the challenge. Talk to a librarian if you are interested. Pick up a punch card and get rewards for what you already enjoy doing … reading! This is a summer reading club with no meetings and lots of incentives!

All Seward Reads Together during JulyDuring these hot or rainy summer days escape into an historical novel and read the 2019 All Seward Reads Together title, Caroline: little house revisited by Sarah Miller. View the famous pioneer family’s journey to Kansas from the eyes of Ma Ingalls. The popular Little House series takes on a different perspective as readers share the thoughts and fears of a woman carrying a baby into unknown territory. Discover the joys of simple acts when challenged with daily survival. Multiple copies are available so pick up a book. Watch for programs related to this story in the coming months.
