Originally named Pacific City, members of this once booming farming community changed the area name to Huntington Beach to entice Mr. Henry Huntington’s Railway business and his famous Red Car to the area. Henry, a railroad mogul, accepted the invitation and in the early 1900’s built a Pacific Electric Railway Building next to the original Huntington Beach Pier. Henry’s daily “Red Car Railway” connected residents and visitors from Los Angeles to Orange County, altering the town in grand style. While we can’t bring back the Red Car service to Los Angeles, we can celebrate Henry Huntington’s vision, raise a glass in his honor and pay tribute to the man who put Huntington Beach on the map.
