SC State Officials to Launch “$50M by 2015” Research Initiative at Research Forum
SC State University officials will unveil plans to increase its level of research funding to $50 million annually by fiscal year (FY) 2015 at the 2010 Research Forum, which will be held noon on Sept. 16 at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Efforts through “$50 Million by 2015” will help enhance the university’s existing research activities and infrastructure and expand its research capacity. During FY 2009, SC State was awarded approximately $30 million in funding from agencies such as the National Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, U.S. Agency for International Development, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), U.S. Department of Energy and the S.C. Department of Education. (Click here for full story).
SC State University has announced a partnership with Connect2Give, Inc., an authorized application service provider through the Mobile Giving Foundation, which provides an opportunity for parents, students, alumni and patrons of SC State to donate to the institution utilizing a mobile phone and text messaging. The Mobile Giving Campaign was unveiled on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 during the first home game of the football season. Supporters only need a $10 donation for the Mobile Giving Campaign. Funds will go directly to the South Carolina State University Foundation, and with Connect2 Give, Inc., organizations retain up to 90 percent of all donations. (Click here for full story).

Turn trash into treasure - that’s the goal of South Carolina State University’s new recycling program.Launched on Aug. 13, 2010 as one of many green initiatives planned by the Staff Senate, the program has received an overwhelming response from faculty, staff and students. “We wanted to start out with something we thought would be small,” said Kay Snider, Staff Senate president. But Snider said after launching the project, it is anything but small. The response has prompted a scramble for more resources, including more recycling bins to spread throughout various areas of campus. (Click here for full story).
