Current Challenges
Confidential – for D&B Customer Internal Use Only
• We are challenged to find businesses still operating in our area.
• Notification of layoffs from employers is sometimes several weeks after the event occurred, making it harder to reach employees who are already furloughed.
• Getting all of our material and partner materials in soft copy to send remotely
• Need email addresses for local businesses
• Participants are less interactive and generally ask less questions on a zoom call than they do in person
• Reaching job seekers for employers who are hiring right now. Many have to stay home with children, or would rather stay home and collect $1,050 in UI than work for less than $26.25/hr. that they probably wouldn't get working for an essential employer (since they tend to be lower paying jobs i.e. grocery, manufacturing, delivery, etc.)

New Norms in Customer Engagement
Confidential – for D&B Customer Internal Use Only
• Creating COVID-19 resources page for employers
• Utilizing Zoom to offer virtual RR's and engage in consultative planning meetings with small businesses experiencing hardships.
• Hosting weekly webinars. Topics include: 1) Small business: PPP, Grant Programs, FFCRA, local initiatives, etc., 2) Layoff Assistance: UI, community resources, personal support, etc.
• Creating generic email inbox set up for business questions that his being published on the City's website and counsel member newsletters.
• Creating “Who’s Hiring?” lists and shared docs, posted to website
• Reaching out through mailing list, chambers of commerce and social media platforms. Sent out impact surveys through Constant Contact.
• EDD has provided each WIB with a graph of the number of new UI claims in their MSA for each week. We have reached out to the LMI division and worked with them to break down those numbers by sector, working to build partnerships with those hit hardest to best support those businesses.
• We have enlisted the support of our service provider business services staffers at ResCare Workforce Services, to call our chambers of commerce and business lists from EconoVue to reach out to offer our services during this disaster.

Best Practices from Workforce Boards

• Upgrading to Zoom webinars, if possible, in order to require registration and capture info for 121 reporting
• Virtual job fairs: One coming up next week in Bay Area with over 25 employers hiring right now and 500+ job seekers pre-registered.
• Made Rapid Response videos available on You Tube for employees recently laid off
• Consolidated our workload by arranging with our local EDD office to host a weekly RR webinar for multiple employers. We're pushing employers we're working with towards the weekly webinar, but of course will still host one-offs when necessary or for larger employers.
• Take advantage of relationship-building with employers who are hiring right now, because we know that once everyone is able to go back to work, not all people will. And most likely older workers will be disproportionately affected. We need to be able to keep up with who is hiring to rapidly re-employ those left behind.
• Sending out impact surveys will help determine the needs of the business community. Coordinate and schedule virtual workshops and orientations. Perform marketing campaigns to promote the events.

• Dealing with uncertainty
• Leverage partners and media to broadcast message about our local resources.
• Making information and resources accessible. Examples include: Virtual AJCC services, learning, engaging and sharing community partner information and resources, keeping website and social media accounts current and relevant.
• Staying in constant communication with local leadership to develop a plan and coordinate efforts for a successful reopening. Use LMI and business data to identify industries most/least impacted locally, identifying skills transfers and creating career ladders for those who may not have a job to go back to post pandemic.
