OVERVIEW As a gateway to the Olympic Peninsula, the State Route 104 Hood Canal Floang Bridge carries an average of 19,000 vehicles each day. The structure is approximately one and a half miles long and made up of floang pontoons anchored and aached to each shoreline with a tube steel truss. The west half of the bridge was replaced in 1982 and the east half in 2009. The bridge is maintained and operated daily by nine dedicated WSDOT employees ensuring the structural, electrical and hydraulic systems remain reliable for the traveling public. This team also has the responsibility to respond within 60 minutes noce to open for all marine traffic per federal marime laws.
