GENRE
I decided the genre of my music magazine whilst annotating the four magazines with their double
page spread and content. I decided I wanted the genre of my magazine to be country music. Country
music is a niche market in England and over all Europe but its mainstream in America. The reason
why its niche is because only a small percentage of the population like this kind of genre in Europe
and more adults than children like the music. I also thought of doing country music because no one
else would pick this because everyone would use mainstream music for their genres for their
magazines. There is publicity for this genre at certain points around the world, for example;
Nashville (Tennessee) and England (West End) even though country music is growing in many other
countries around the world, this is why country music is now becoming mainstream because of the
growth of this music. This allows me to focus purely on this genre in my questionnaire. This allows
me to explore the different conventions and sub-conventions of country music. It also allows me to
explore how far country music has come since it started, there are not many magazines on this topic
for sale in the UK but in the USA there are a lot of different ones you can pick from.
TARGET AUDIENCE
I have a lot of knowledge of the target audience for country music, it has a
wide age range for it’s audience. With that in mind I am going to only focus
my target audience on people aged 15 to 45. This allows me to focus on
the target audience and their needs for my magazine. It will be easy and
hard to know what content my audience wants to see in the magazine
since my target audience is such a wide range of people , so they might
like similar music. The target audience is going to be mainly males because
more males are interested in country music than females but there are still
quite a lot of females interested in this genre of music. Looking at that, I
have to cater for both genders in my magazine. The magazine will be for
the niche and mainstream market.
