Statement

The founding director of Al Oulais starting a wild hunger strike

I am the undersigned Nebil JRIDET, founding director of the first Tunisian independentweekly newspaper in Arabic published after the revolution: "AL OULA ATTOUNISSIA".

I want to inform all colleagues, journalists, bloggers, activists, human rights defenders ,media specialists, representatives of all Non Governmental Organizations both nationaland international, all tarde- union structures , including the National Union of TunisianJournalists ( SNJT), the National instance for the Reform of Information andCommunication (INRIC), and all representatives of civil society, that following the

indications and information:

- The May 3, 2012 press release , in which we have threatened to go into a wild hungerstrike, and that we have addressed to the President of the Tunisian Republic, the PrimeMinister, the President of the Constituent Assembly, and various representatives of

governmental structures and media;- The indifference of the governmental structures following the receipt of our statement;- The spread of corruption and favoritism between news papers in the allocation of stateadvertising, and the continuation of the politics of indifference by public institutionswhen it comes to our public correspondence, and their cuts with the laws organizing

procurement;

- The distribution of advertising-based on political policy and partisan orientation"Nahdhaoui" or worst for the benefit of newspapesr claiming to be independent

newspapers but that have a "Nahdhaoui" editorial line without any legal support orstatistical data;- The disappearance of serious newspapers published after the revolution due to theirdeprivation of public advertising and obstacles imposed on them on the one hand, byeconomic forces that monopolize the channels of distribution of newspapers, and

secondly by political forces that interfere in the distribution of government advertising;

Given the government's indifference to this urgent and delicate matter and his lack ofencouargement to public enterprises to adapt open standards in the distribution ofstate advertising, and its refusal to implement solutions (even partial) to save the new

independent newspapers;

And facing the continual silence towards the newspaper of defamation and the tabloidpress, as well as the providing of support to the tabloids by inserting advertisingservice;

We decided to start a wild hunger strike until tangible solutions to ensure fairness andtransparency and respect the laws that organize the sector will be provided by the

government , while we are attributing the responsibility for all the complications ensuingto the government.
