TOTEM CM – 18 March 2009

• 7 ELMBs for RadMon within the

batch of the DCS (Fernando);

• ELMBs configured for “non-

standard” CAN-bus data transfer

mechanism: on-demand SDO

(usually: synchronized PDO).

• 2 RadFETs (TID); 2 p-i-n diodes (Feq); NTC:

RadFETs: ~ 100mA x 1000 ms

p-i-n diodes: 1mA x 700 ms

• All 36 ISCs produced & characterized at the end of 2008 by PH/DT;

• 2 in RPs @ 220 mt, 1 in T2 ¼ so far;

• PH/DT manages the stock of spares for LHC experiments.

Result RadMon Pilot Setup

TOTEM CM – 18 March 2009

We could reproduce the Tc of all sensors @ 300 mt. (here Tc = ~ 25 mV/C)

What else did we learn ?

TOTEM CM – 18 March 2009

I Max = 18kA

• CMS mField does not induce noticable changes (after proper grounding);

• Test and debug the PVSS control function with > 35‘000 readout cycles.

• Grounding of the Power Supplies;

• Temp. behaviour on the RPMB in function of cooling conditions (det. OFF: T~13C while T(Si) =-35C)

RadMon Control Software

TOTEM CM – 18 March 2009

• RadMon ELMBs use different data handling;

• Prototype of PVSS ctr. function developed & tested:

now used in the RPMB Test Panel of Lab. 555 (Ivan)

• Sizable work for the DCS team (D2-to-D5);

• Sequential readout of 3 ISCs (1 PP board) in ~ 30s.ISC1

SW OFF NTC SW ON READ sens. & curr. SW OFF

ISC2

SW OFF NTC ...

• Needs to be integrated in the global DCS structure;

• Proper logic to be fully defined and implemented.

HW Integration in IP5

• Cabling:– USC55:

• RPs: all OK, 1 connector/ISC (Antoine);

• T1/T2: all OK with SUB-D’s Adaptation needed

– Missing: Connectors and “short cables” @ RP 147 mt.

• DCS Rack:– RPs: “ELMB Box” is being assembled and cabled (Johan);

– T1/T2: mechanics ready, “ELMB Box” to be assembled.

Passive RadMon

• Complementary/Redundant Radiation Measurements;• Passive sensors needs to be removed for readout;• WG started as common project for LHC Experiments (2004);• Since then …

– ATLAS: samples from different institutes;– ALICE: ?– CMS/ATLAS-ALFA: samples from DESY;– LHCb: exploited the WG outcome.

Conclusions

• Active RadMon System– All components were procured/produced;– Pilot Setup validate the design/allowed extensive tests;– Control Software needs to be integrated in the DCS;– Final HW needs to be integrated in IP5;

• Passive RadMon System– All sensors were procured for experiment startup;– All passive units are available for installation.
