The Virginia Conference United Methodist Women started the Rainbow Giver Program in 2010. This is an opportunity for you, as an individual, to personally give to the 5 Channels of Mission Giving in addition to your regular pledge to mission. Your gift of $ 60.00 will make you a Rainbow Woman/Giver:
√$ 40.00 to give someone special a Special Mission Recognition Pin
√$ 5.00 to give a Pledge to Mission (this is in addition to your
regular pledge)
√$ 5.00 for a Gift to Mission Card
√$ 5.00 for a Gift in Memory Card
√$ 5.00 for a gift to World Thank Offering It is so easy to become a Rainbow Giver; just fill out the form below and give the form to your unit treasurer with a check for $ 60.00. On the form please specify which Gift to Mission Card you want and the name of the recipient for the Special Mission Recognition pin. Anyone can become a Rainbow Giver; this is an opportunity for church members, spouses, or friends to participate in UMW Mission Giving. This program does not replace your Pledge and World Thank Offering, but is another opportunity, as an individual, to con-tribute to five areas of Mission Giving.
If your church does not have an active UMW unit and you choose to be counted as a UMW, you may activate your membership via this Rainbow Giver Program. Complete the form and mail it directly to the Staunton District Treasurer:

Happy New Year! I wish you all a happy and healthy 2016. As we begin to reflect on our activities in the new year, I would like to remember some of the events from 2015.
We had a wonderful Advent Breakfast at Central UMC in Staunton. Thank you to the ladies and men for the wonderful breakfast and for hosting that event. We had a wonderful time as we sang Christmas carols and listened to Walt and Betty Whitehurst tell us about some of their mission work.
I would also like to thank the ladies of Collierstown UMC for hosting the District Mission Team for their planning session in January. We so much appreciate the warm welcome we received and the wonderful lunch.
Remember also our Annual Meeting in September with our Conference Vice President, Karen McElfish, as she explained the Legacy Fund to us. There is a wonderful program in the 2015-16 Program book, “Looking Forward to the 150
th Anniversary of United Methodist
Women” which will highlight an issue that was a part of United Methodist Women’s heritage and is still relevant today. It is important that we share this information with our unit members. We will have pledge cards and pins available at our prayer breakfasts for you to take some back to your units.
Keep in mind that your District Mission Team members are available to visit your units and are willing to provide a program if you desire. You get credit on your “Living Into Our Purpose” report for having a District officer visit your unit during the year.
Also, if you haven’t read “A Faithful Heart” by Sally Dyck which is on our reading list, I would recommend you purchase it and use it for daily devotions. It counts on the reading program under Spiritual Growth.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our prayer breakfast on March 5 and Day Apart on April 2. Please remember to call a count to your area leader or Zone Leader by the Monday before.
In Mission with you!

P.S. Please note that there has been a change in the location of the 2016 Advent Breakfast from what was printed in our Advent Program. The Advent Breakfast will be held December 3, 2016, at Mt. Carmel UMC in Covington.

Vice President

Upon asking Ron Robey, Camp Overlook Executive Director what I might share with United Methodist Women he sent a letter explaining why our Churches have a Camp. The following is a recap of his thoughts.
Just as Jesus often stepped away from the many demands of his ministry there is a place for you to retreat. At Camp Overlook young and old can spend time with God in a variety of settings from wild, rustic to very comfortable accommodations with any of the settings enabling you to have a physical and spiritual renewal with God.
You are invited to participate in one of the Christian Life Retreat Experiences at
Overlook or plan one to suit you and/or your UMW Unit. Witness God’s creation and be reminded of how to refocus your life.
Here is an Overlook Wish List: * 4 evergreen shrubs for South Gate
* Lettering for the camp bus * Replacement Bedspreads for Blessings Lodge (@ $50 each) * Flat Screen TV’s to replace aging units in retreat buildings * Box fans for Noah’s Ark * 16 hammocks (2 $24 each) to be used in outdoor adventure program
As our churches prepare for Lent with a time of prayer and reflection, Camp Overlook was envisioned and developed to support spiritual growth. Celebrate the 50 year milestone of the Reid property going from a farm to becoming Overlook Retreat & Camp Ministry. Peace and Blessings,
Ellen DeLong
