The content

Works of steampunk often feature technology and futuristic innovations.

It is also based on a Victorian perspective on fashion styles, mixture of cultures, architectural known settings, and art.

The technology included has fictional machines, real tech-devices like computers but developed on earlier historical times.

Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of "the path not taken" for such technology such as advance weapons, airspace machines, analog computers, or digital computers.

Steampunk VS. Cyberpunk:

Steampunk is often associated with cyberpunk. They have considerable influence on each other and share a similar fan base, however, steampunk developed as a separate movement. Apart from time period and level of technology, the main difference is that steampunk settings tend to be less dystopian.

On an every day basis there are many musical and fashion trends that are known by the name of steampunk since they are related to the characters and theme within the genre.
