It is critical that you purchase structural components that are properly treated to prevent rust and oxidizing. You wouldn’t buy a rusty car, don’t settle for an inferior steel building structure.

Do you have in-house engineers and detailers on sta�?

Have I researched this company’s reputation?Do you know who you’re doing business with? Do they have a record of dealing fairly with customers? Google the company name followed by common terms such as ‘deposit’, ‘reviews’, or ‘complaints’.

Don’t do business with anyone who does not have engineers or detailers on sta�! Why? If they don’t detail it, engineer it, or manufacture it...they’re a broker. Brokers are simply middlemen who order buildings on your behalf solely based on width, length and height dimensions. Beyond that, they o�en hand over all quality control of your building to the cheapest overseas bidder and pocket the di�erence in price.

When do you need to pull permits? When are you planning to build?

Can you manage parts of the project?If you can manage parts of your own project or you have a general contractor chosen already, you may qualify for direct pricing. The scope of a steel building manufacturer includes all the facets of the structural components and exterior finish. This does not however include acces-sories such as doors and windows. Buying direct and managing your own building project means you will have full control over the selection of your accessories.

If a building salesman isn’t willing to tell you the exact specifications of the accessories they are including with your building, there is a good chance they are low quality with a high markup.

Drawings on a cocktail napkin won’t cut it when it comes to financing or county and city approval. O�en times, professional permit drawings are needed before you can go to the bank for financing or to the county to pull building permits. Drawings like this normally take 4-6 weeks to complete. This is where your project begins, make sure you get your drawings on time.
