Alignment

NOTE: For proper alignment, you will need three ¼” dowel pins and a steering arm spacer. This tool kit is available from Toro. Order part number 132-0852. NOTE: The fourth dowel pin is used for a different procedure.

1. Ensure the wheel gears are in the forward position so that the tie rod end hole in the gears are straight forward.

2. Align the mark on the sector gear with a tooth on the lower steering shaft as shown. The mark on the gear must be right in the middle

3. Remove the front shroud as outlined in “Front Shroud” Service Information Sheet. On the top of the mower and in front of the steering column, place the steering arm spacer in the hole directly in front of the steering column.

The spacer should surround the nut on the tie rod end verifying the steering column is straight.

4. If the right side wheel (when sitting on machine) is not straight, adjust the tie rod ends on the short tie rod (A) until the wheel is positioned in a straight forward position.

5. If the left side wheel (when sitting on machine) isn’t straight, adjust the tie rod ends on the long tie rod (B) until the wheel is positioned in a straight forward position.

6. Insert one of the ¼” dowel pins through the holes in the speed control assembly and through the hole in the frame.

If the pin does NOT fit, you will need to install a pin through the traction pedal and adjust the tie rod end on the pivot lever assembly. See steps 3 and 4 in the “Speed Control Assembly” Service Instruction Sheets.

7. Lift up the seat and insert a ¼” dowel pin through both alignment holes on both sides of the hydro rod bell cranks. The dowel pins should touch the bell cranks.

8. If one of the hydro-locking dowel pins does not insert properly, adjust the length of the corresponding control rod from the speed control assembly by removing the nut and turning the tie rod end (A) until the pin inserts freely and contacts the bell crank.
