2. OPEN/CLOSED SIGN C~AILS: THE MESSAGE TO READ "OPEN" IN RED ONE INCH LED CLUSTERS AND "CLOSED" IN GREEN ONE INCH LED CLUSTERS WITH 18 (EIGHTEEN) INCH HEIGHT CHARACTERS. TEXT CHARACTERS SHALL RESEMBLE SERIES E MODIFIED.
3 . THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT FOR APPROVAL TO THE ENGINEER A SIGN AND SIGN HOUSING SYSTEM DESIGN THAT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF THESE PLANS PRIOR TO PLACING AN ORDER FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE SIGN SHALL BE OPERATIONAL BETWEEN THE TEMPERATURES OF + 11 0 DEGREES TO -60 DEGREES FARENHHEIGHT. THE ENCLOSURE SHALL INCLUDE 110 VAC STRIP HEATERS AND THERMOSTATS AND INSULATION ON THE INSIDE TOP. SIGNS SHALL BE LEGIBLE FOR 700 FEET DURING THE DAY AND NIGHT.
4. THE 'SIGN HOUSING DIMENSIONS SHOWN ARE APPROXIMATE. SIGN HOUSINGS ARE GENERALLY CUSTOM MADE TO FIT THESE TYPES OF SIGNS. CUSTOMIZE THE HOUSING FRAME SO IT CAN BE SECURELY FASTENED TO THE SIGN MOUNTING POSTS. PLACE 1 INCH DIA. SCREENED WEEP HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SIGN HOUSING. THE ENTIRE HOUSING ASSEMBLY SHALL BE ACID ETCHED AND PAINTED WITH TWO COATS OF ZINC-CHROMATE PRIMER, INTERIOR OF HOUSING SHALL BE PAINTED WITH TWO COATS OF HIGH QUALITY FLAT BLACK EN.AMEL. THE EXTERIOR OF THE HOUSING SHALL BE PAINTED WITH TWO COATS OF HIGH QUALITY SEMI-GLOSS BLACK ENAMEL.
5. A WALL MOUNTED CONTROL PANEL FOR THE OPEN/CLOSED SIGNS SHALL BE INSTALLED INSIDE THE SCALE HOUSE. THE PANEL WILL INDICATE THAT THE POWER IS ON OR OFF FOR EACH SIGN. A REMOTE OPERATOR SYSTEM (WIRELESS) SHALL BE INSTALLED THAT HAS THE ABILITY TO TOGGLE THE MESSAGE INDEPENDENTLY FOR EACH SIGN. IT IS PREFERRED THAT THE CONTROL PANEL AND THE WIRELESS OPERATOR BE ONE SYSTEM. THE WIRELESS SYSTEM SHALL BE INSTALLED SO THAT IT WORKS FROM THE SCALE HOUSE FOR OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM +110 DEGREES TO -60 DEGREES FARENHHEIGHT.
6. THE SIGN MOUNT SHALL CONSIST OF A TWO-POST SYSTEM. INSTALLATION PER STANDARD DRAWING S-31.00 WITH A FLANGIBLE COUPLING SYSTEM FOR W-SHAPE POST. USE W6 X 12 POST SIZE. THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE SIGN HOUSING SHALL BE INSTALLED 7-FEET ABOVE THE ADJACENT ROADWAY CENTERLINE ELEVATION. THE SIGN POST SPACING SHALL BE 5-FEET.
