A Welcome from theHeadteacher

Welcome to our STEM Awards Ceremony which celebrates the strong culture of Science, Technology,Engineering and Mathema1cs we have at Denbigh School. The broad range of opportunity offered toour students in the STEM disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathema1cs are integralto the ethos of our School and build on our broad curriculum offer. We know that our students benefitgreatly in terms of developing their knowledge, skills and self-confidence through compe1ng againsttheir peers in local, na1onal and regional compe11ons and today is an opportunity to celebratetheir achievements.

This year has been very exci1ng in terms of the new challenges and compe11ons our students havetaken part in for the first 1me and the success they have experienced. Our Commemora1ve Brochurecelebrates these successes and the credit the students have brought to themselves as individuals andthe School as a whole. The reputa1on of Denbigh School is growing both regionally and na1onally asa result of the outstanding performances of our students.

As an example, this year two teams of Denbigh students took part for the first 1me in the Land Rover4x4 Interna1onal Schools Technology Challenge. The students were challenged to build a radiocontrolled four-wheel drive car that could navigate an ‘off road’ track. Both teams performedextremely well and our Girls Team won through to the Na1onal Finals at the first 1me of asking. The team then gave an excellent account of themselves at the Na1onal Finals which were held atSilverstone. The whole experience has been fantas1c for the students involved and the staff thatsupported them.

For the second year running we will also use this opportunity to recognise those students who webelieve have made an outstanding contribu1on in terms of their par1cipa1on and achievement in theSTEM disciplines by awarding them their STEM ‘Half’ or ‘Full Colours’. Our students can now achieveColours for achievement right across the curriculum and their success is celebrated in our fourcelebra1on ceremonies which take place every year.

We will also recognise the students who have shown great commitment to our STEM LectureProgramme, of which we are extremely proud. This innova1ve and successful lecture programmehas just completed its 11th year and con1nues to a2ract guest speakers from a range of universi1es tolecture on STEM related issues of the day. Students from other schools across Milton Keynesalso a2end the lectures along with members of our community.

Thank you for joining us today and helping to make this celebra1on specialfor all the students and staff involved.

Andy Squires, Headteacher
