Being a Successful STEM Being a Successful STEM StudentStudent

1) Start math and English courses early. Math and English sequences can take multiple semesters to complete. A late start in these sequences can delay transferring to a university.

2) Come to the STEM Center as soon as you are having any challenges in your STEM classes. DO NOT DELAY!

3) Form a weekly study group. Studying with other students who are in the same classes as you will increase your chances of success.

4) Utilize your instructor’s office hours. Remember that your instructors want you to succeed in your STEM courses

5) Always do assigned reading and homework. Teachers assign homework to help you understand subject material better…don’t skip it!

6) Don’t take the easy teacher. You need to think, “Will I learn the material I NEED in this class?” You will need to use the material you learn now, in your upper division classes later on.

7) Schedule specific study time in your weekly schedule. If you don’t schedule in the time, you will allow other activities to take up your study time.

8) Take Engineering 100 or Education 140. Great classes for STEM majors!9) Choose a major that you LOVE!

Remember the STEM Center is here to help you achieve your academic goals at Allan Hancock College and beyond. Start here, Go anywhere.
