THEIR STORYStephanie Tagliatela (30 and the cofounder and chief scientist of a biotechnology startup) and Kartik Ramamoorthi (32 and chief executive at the same startup) filled their wedding day with equal parts of their respective Italian and Indian heritages. “We wanted to honor our cultures but still keep things fresh and modern,” Stephanie says. The celebration began with a morning Brahmin Hindu ceremony, during which the couple sat under a mandap surrounded by their loved ones. After their Western ceremony later in the day, guests ate Italian fare at the Saybrook Inn, which Stephanie’s grandfather built, before taking home Indian spices. Everyone ended the night by dancing to Bollywood hits and Western faves. —Louis Baragona

BRUNCH The newlyweds ate under the cover of a showstopping arch draped with greenery and jewel-toned marigolds. Brunch-goers feasted thali style, grabbing Kartik’s favorite South Indian dishes. CAKE Not only did Stephanie and Kartik cut into a jacquard-printed cake, but they also opted to provide guests with

some Italian sweets. COFFEE FIX “Kartik and I share an intense love of coffee,” Stephanie says. “I surprised him with the Source Coffeebus for all of us to enjoy.”

CEREMONY Stephanie and Kartik said their vows overlooking the marina under an arch covered in Russian olive leaves. The couple picked an officiant with a specialty in multicultural weddings. “It celebrated love that transcends boundaries and constructs,” Stephanie says. PLACE SETTINGS Burgundy menus with a gold-foiled Gatsby-esque font topped geometric jacquard chargers inspired by the print on Stephanie’s sari. “We went art deco and asymmetric with the design,” Stephanie says.
