    Birth and Adoption

    Steve Jobs was bornFebruary 24, 1955 in SanFrancisco, California

    A week after birth hewas put up for adoption

    He was adopted by Paul

    and Clara Jobs who gavehim the name of StevenPaul Jobs.

    Childhood and Teenage years

    Since he was a boy, his skillsbecame so apparent that he wasallowed to skip 5th grade and gostraight to middle school.

    At Homestead High, he attendedhis first electronics class.

    Fernandez happened to know an

    electronics whiz whose name wasSteve Wozniak.

    Friendship between the Two Steves

    Although they met in 1969, areal friendship between Steveand Woz started developing acouple of years later, when

    Woz became a renownedfigure in the small world ofphone phreaks.

    They started selling blueboxes that allowed to make

    AT&Ts international calls forfree, until it started to becometoo illegal to be safe.

    College and his First Job

    After Steve finished HighSchool, he attended Reed Collegein Oregon.

    His grades were extremely poor.

    After six months, I had no ideawhat I wanted to do with my lifeand no idea how college wasgoing to help me figure it out, soI decided to drop out.

    It wasnt before 1974 that hegot his first job at a young videogame company called Atari.

    The Birth of Apple Computer

    At that time, Steve Wozniak was working inthe design of what would be considered asthe first PCs.

    Steves own interest in computer designwas limited, but he understood that hisfriends current project was an amazing feat

    of engineering. He started to get involved and after a fewmonths, he convinced Woz to found acompany to sell his computer.

    So, on April 1, 1976, Apple was born. Thename Apple Computer was chosen becausethey hadnt found anything better andbecause it was Steves favorite food.

    The Apple I

    Though their initial plan was tosell just printed circuit boards,Jobs and Wozniak ended upcreating a batch of completelyassembled computers

    The first personal computerJobs and Wozniak introducedwas called the Apple I.

    The Apple I sold for $666.66

    The Apple II

    In 1977, Woz started working onthe design of the Apple II, whichwas a real breakthrough due to itscolor display, sound andexpandability. More than twomillion were sold.

    Apple became the company ofpersonal computers.

    The Macintosh Project

    Steve, who owned $7.5 millionof Apple stocks, was worth $217.5million by the end of the day.

    However, Steve wanted to be

    involved in the development ofApples future products.

    By early 1981, Steve took overthe Macintosh project.

    1984 saw the introduction of theMacintosh, the first commerciallysuccessful computer with agraphical user interface.

    Departure from Apple

    The first figures of Mac sales lookedvery promising.

    It all came to an end on Tuesday, May28, 1985. Despite his attempts toconvince board members, every singleboard member voted his removal.

    This was the beginning of one of the

    darkest period in Steves life. He didntknow what would become of him.

    NeXT

    After leaving Apple, Jobs foundedanother computer company, NeXTComputer

    Like Apple's Lisa, the NeXT Cube(launched 1990) was technologically

    advanced, but was never able to breakinto the mainstream mainly owing toits high cost and compatibilityproblems.

    In January 1992, Steve decided toreact to the Cubes miserable sales bylicensing its operating system, but itfailed too.

    The Return to Apple

    During Steves absence, Bill Gatesused his privileged relationship withApple to steal some of its latesttechnology and develop a GUI of itsown, Windows; and soon becamethe most popular OS.

    Apples marketshare fell down toaround 4%, making it an almostsmall player in the market it hadcreated.

    They decided to purchase NeXT onDecember 20, 1996, bringing Jobs

    back to the company he founded. On August 6, 1997, at MacWorldExpo, an announcement was made:Apple was going to partner with itsarchrival, Microsoft.

    New Beginnings

    Steve took many measures inorder to bring Apple back to itsglory and cut the number ofprojects from 350 to a dozen.

    The first one was the Thinkdifferent campaign.

    But the best was yet to come:the iMac. It was unveiled on May6, 1998. Its revolutionary designmade it a stunning success.

    That design was also used on theiBook with the same success.

    More importantly, it is in January2000 that Steve showed the firstglimpses of Apples nextgeneration operating system, MacOS X.

    The iPod Revolution

    In the early 21stcentury, a new age ofcomputing began: that ofthe digital lifestyle.

    When the Napster

    phenomenon erupted in2000, Steve asked theiTunes team to work on anew project, a portabledigital music player.

    The iPod was introducedto the world on October23, 2001 and could carry1,000 songs in yourpocket.

    Personal Life

    Jobs married Laurene Powell onMarch 18, 1991 and has had threechildren with her.

    He also had a daughter named LisaBrennan-Jobs with Chris Brennan,whom he did not marry.

    One of the most difficult episode ofSteves life occurred in the midst ofthe turnaround of his very busycareer.

    On 2004, he was diagnosed withcancer. His doctors told him that itwas incurable. Later, he had a biopsywhere the doctors found it was a veryrare form of pancreatic cancer that iscurable with surgery.
