Current Exchange Process

• Few participants in NCHS VRX program• Primarily paper copies, abstracts and line

lists are exchanged• Exchange and use rules are difficult to

follow and enforce• Slows the availability of a complete data

set for analysis and reporting• Will not support timely birth/death

matching once required by Intel Reform

NAPHSIS will hold special orientation and training sessions at the 2008 regional

meetings to inform you in detail about how STEVE will work and when it will be ready

to deploy in your jurisdiction.

How You Will Use STEVE

• Exchange records with other jurisdictions– Birth/death crossmatch– Complete statistical data files

• Transfer reportable data to NCHS• Exchange coded data files with NCHS• Exchange records with Canadian

provinces and other trading partners• Re-distribute exchanged data to other

programs and agencies in your jurisdiction
