Dr. Steven Flax got started with his academics in the year 1973 from the renowned Nassau Community College, Garden City, NY. Making his way through different community colleges, Dr. Flax worked for and acquired his undergraduate degree in the year 1978 from the Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. If truth be told, Dr. Flax has continually been extremely dedicated to his academics and moved on to acquire his medical degree in the year 1982 from the University of Miami School of Medicine, which is based in Miami, Florida. Upon the acquisition of his degree, he moved on to performing his Residency in Anesthesiology. He did so at the famous Brigham & Women’s Hospital, which is located at the Harvard University Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. However, he was also very passionate about his education, which is why he continued to acquire his Masters in Business Administration degree in the year 1997 from the University of South Florida School of Business, Tampa, Florida.

Dr. Flax has long been a Fellow of the American Board of Anesthesiology. Apart from that, he has also served as a Fellow of the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. If truth be told, his career is rather extensive for he has additionally served on the Board of Directors of the Volunteers in Medicine Institute. He has also been a part of the Editorial Board of the monthly journal “Managed Care Physicians.” Dr. Flax has served as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, Clinical Systems Consultant, Director of Quality Improvement and Utilization Review, and as President and C.E.O. of the Watson Clinic Foundation, Inc.

Helping humanity

Dr. Flax has long been dedicate to helping humanity, and it is for this reason that he actually founded a volunteer run clinic by the name of Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine Clinic. Through this volunteer clinic, he took the initiative to offer free medical care to patients who did not possess health insurance for any reason at all. This initiative has sure proved to be very helpful for people who could not access healthcare simply because they did not possess insurance. For the services that he has provided to humanity, Dr. Flax has received the Florida Medical Business Physician Humanitarian Award (2001), National Association of Social Workers’ (NASW’s) Public Citizen Of The Year Award, Polk Medical Association’s Art of Medicine Humanitarian Award, and the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) Preeminence Award.

All through his career, Dr. Steven Flax has served a number of prestigious roles, including that of the Vice President of We Care-Polk County, Coach of Lincoln Avenue Academy Chess Team, volunteer physician Talbot House Good Samaritan Free Clinic, member of the Lakeland Rotary Club, and a member of Leadership Lakeland Class XVI.
