P R I N C I P A L ’ S M E S S A G E :
Dear Parents,
I am currently involved in a program (SAM) that helps me to focus on instruction. I will be working closely with teachers by observing them and holding conversations about their teacher practices.
My days are pretty much scheduled, so if you would like to speak with me, I appreciate it if you could first talk to the person who is in charge of a specific task (called a First Responder). I do like to make sure that your concerns are being resolved as soon as possible. If you are unable to resolve the problem with this person, please set up an appointment with the secretary to meet with me. I am doing my best to assist teachers to improve student achievement.
Thank you so much for your understanding and your help in allowing me to spend more time in the classrooms.

P A R C C T E S T I N G Students in 3rd, 4th, & 5th grades will be taking the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College Careers) Test from April 3-13. This is an important test that provides information about the extent to which our students are meeting state learning standards. This is an exciting time when students get to show what they have learned! A few reminders for our families:
*Make sure your child is here every day. Make appointments on days off or later in the day.
*Be on time to school. Testing will start promptly at 9:05 in some classes.
*Encourage your child to get a good night’s rest.
*Eat a healthy breakfast.
*Encourage your child to do their best!
Thank you for your support and encouragement!

Spring Picture Day
Don’t forget—Spring Picture Day will
be Thursday, May 3.
National Walking Day!—April 4
Walking Toward a Healthier You
There are countless physical activities out there, but walking has the lowest dropout rate of them all! It’s the
simplest positive change you can make to effectively improve your heart health. Research has shown that the
benefits of walking and moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day can help you:
-Reduce the risk of coronary heart disease
-Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels
-Improve blood lipid profile
-Maintain body weight & lower the risk of obesity
-Enhance mental well being
-Reduce the risk of osteoporosis
-Reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer
-Reduce the risk of non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes
-Fun and easy
-No special equipment needed
There really are so many benefits for such a simple activity!
Let’s take a WALK! Walk to school, to a friend’s, around the neighborhood or in the mall with your family!

Stevenson Student Council The Leader in Me:
At Stevenson, the student council members are seen as leaders. These students are
role models in our school and other students look to them for advice and guidance.
Since our student council members are already showing the school expectations we
have been giving them more opportunities to grow as leaders by learning more about
the 7 habits of happy kids during our monthly meetings. Visit http://
www.theleaderinme.org/the-7-habits-for-kids to learn more about each habit and to
support discussions at home.

DINE OUT
APRIL 13—3p-9p
A portion of your dine out dollars
will be donated to Stevenson!
Café News The school year is quickly coming to an end. I would like to take a minute and ask parents/guardians to watch for nega-
tive balance letters that are sent home with their students. Any large dollar amounts will be turned over for collection at
the end of the school year. If your student has a large negative dollar amount, I urge you to set up a payment plan by call-
ing any of the following: Char Formella or Katy Hansen @ 663-2351 or Deidre Witte @ 827-6031. If we haven’t heard
from you by Thursday, April 13, 2017, your student will begin receiving a Cheese sandwich, fruit, veggie & milk. If your
income changes any time during the school year, you are always welcome to apply for free/reduced breakfasts & lunch-
es. If you have a child in your household that qualifies for free/reduced lunch and one that has not, please contact Deidre
Witte so that benefits can be extended.
On taco day the students had a chance to try the new Bush’s Fiesta black beans. Many of the students who tried them
said they tasted like chili and liked them. On Wednesday, March 7th, we gave 1st – 4th graders a choice of our new chick-
en drumstick or the hot dog for the main meal that day. The students who chose the chicken drumstick REALLY liked
them! I’m so glad they are excited for something new.
From our kitchen to yours,
Cooking or baking with your kids is a great way to say I love spending time with you!
