Dear Friends, Jesus told his disciples: Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, for I am going to the Father." These words of Christ at the Last Supper are for us today. They are especially for the 104 children and their families who celebrated First Communion this month. They’re for our RCIA recipients of the Sacraments of Initiation. They’re also for Deacon JC Merino who will be ordained a priest May 27. Each of these experiences are encounters with the Risen Christ, not simply the Jesus of 2,000 years ago. This isn’t like reading about someone from the past, a Lincoln or a Mother Teresa. Since Christ is risen, he’s actively present today, challenging them (and us) right now to work with him to save his world. There are certain elements that are common to all such encounters with Christ. Like Mary Magdalene, the first to meet the Risen Christ, he can be recognized by his personal call. It is we who hear him, not someone else. The second is equally striking. He says: “Don’t be afraid.” As with his first followers, he says it to us in spite of our failures and even our rejections of him. Why? Because he wants to involve us in his mission. He is “going to the Father.” He will do greater works through us than he did alone. Thirdly, we are commissioned to announce that because Christ is alive now, his vision for humanity has been vindicated: he had worked to reconcile all people, and for as long as it takes, he will continue to do his Father’s work. The big difference between now and 2,000 years ago is that we are involved in this work, physically and spiritually. As the Eucharist reveals, he has joined himself to us. We are his body. He acts in us. St. Teresa of Avila used to say: “we are his eyes and ears, his arms and hands, his legs and feet.” We make reconciliation visible. Because Christ created us and knows each of us from within, he knows our talents, potentials, and interests. He relishes our uniqueness. He won’t ignore what he has created in us. He wants us to flourish as who we are. We share, however, in a bigger purpose: what is uniquely ours is for the service of his reconciling love for all creation. While the proclaimers of the “prosperity gospel” rightly emphasize the fulfillment of our unique abilities, that’s not all. What they sometimes forget is that our personal fulfillment and Christ’s reconciling action go hand in hand. So, our First Communicants are commissioned by the Risen Christ to learn how to be in communion with their families, friends, and classmates. Our RCIA recipients will find Christ challenging them to be more a part of our parish and to be open to others in justice and peace. And Deacon JC will be commissioned to be Christ’s reconciling presence with anyone at any time in priestly self-sacrificing love. The personal question that those whom we honor this month must face each day is: will they answer this call? Only they can respond for themselves. No one else can. And, because we share this challenge with them, the same is true for us, their brothers and sisters: will we say “yes” to Christ and his mission each day? Love, Fr. Joe

Dear Friends,

Jesus told his disciples: Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, for I am going to the Father."

These words of Christ at the Last Supper are for us today.

Love,

REFLECTION

Christina Rossetti, 1830 - 1894

Sonnets are full of love, and this my tome Has many sonnets: so here now shall be One sonnet more, a love sonnet, from me To her whose heart is my heart’s quiet home, To my first Love, my Mother, on whose knee I learnt love-lore that is not troublesome; Whose service is my special dignity, And she my loadstar while I go and come And so because you love me, and because I love you, Mother, I have woven a wreath Of rhymes wherewith to crown your honored name: In you not fourscore years can dim the flame Of love, whose blessed glow transcends the laws Of time and change and mortal life and death.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS 5th Sunday of Easter

“The stone which the builders rejected has become

the cornerstone.” (1 Peter 2:7)

Everyone is given unique gifts. Many people are able to recognize their talents and abilities, but there are many people who are unsure of their gifts. This may make them feel worthless. If you know someone who is struggling for a direction in life, give them a little encouragement. Help them discern how they might use their skills. No gift is too small or insignificant.

Thank you…. A big thank you to all the

parishioners who donated beautiful outfits to the Archdiocesan Stewardship Office’s Collection of First Communion outfits. Parishioners from St. Anne’s generously donated outfits to dress 15 children on their very special day. Over all, 700 dresses and 300 suite plus veils, shirts, ties and socks were donated to the Stewardship Office. Thank you for making a very important day in a child’s life even more special.

A Word from Pope Francis: I note and I encourage the contribution of so

many women who work within the family, in

the areas of teaching the faith, pastoral work,

schooling, but also in social, cultural and

economic structures. You women know how to

embody the tender face of God, his mercy,

which is translated into a willingness to give

time rather than to occupy space, to welcome

rather than to exclude. In this sense, I like to

describe the feminine dimension of the Church

as the welcoming womb which regenerates life.

which along with other fees and donations totaled $19,299.00. Our weekly expenses average out to $20,348.00.

Heating & Air Conditioning ~ Everyone knows that there are some months in which our electricity bill or heating bill is higher than others.

Well, it’s the same with the Church. As you know, we use an additional way of paying for our extra energy

months. In the back of the church each Sunday you will find separate ENERGY envelopes. If you should

happen to hit the jackpot that week, and wish to throw a dollar or two in that envelope, we’d greatly appreciate

it! You can throw these special envelopes right in the collection with your regular envelope. The energy

envelopes will not be mailed to you. They will simply be in the back of the church, so if you don’t spot them, be

sure to ask the ushers at your Mass. Thanks.

Online Giving…

You have the opportunity to make donations to our Sunday collection online! To sign up, go to the St. Anne website – www.stannefairlawnnj.org

There are several ways to access the system: 1. Underneath the scrolling slideshow on the home page, on the bottom right-hand corner, you will

see a light blue icon with a $ sign. Click that icon to go directly to the system.

OR 2. From the homepage, check the left-hand menu options. The second to last menu option says

“envelopes & online giving.” Click that link, and a page with various giving options will appear.

Select the Online Giving option to be taken directly to the system.

Once you are taken to the new site, click on the section that says Create New Account. Next you will see New User Account Registration. Fill out the form and click “submit.” When you are enrolled, you can go into Manage My Account, where you will see My Payment Methods. Here you can choose to have the funds deducted from your checking or bank account (you will need your routing and account numbers on hand). Under Manage My Account, you will also see Give a New Gift. There you will decide when and how much to give. (In the list, Offertory Collection means the Sunday collection.) You can select recurring or one time gifts. You also have the option to access all the other special envelopes you would normally find in your envelope packet and which are generally one-time donations.

Each time you go to Mass, get a card that says “I have made my donation online” and put it in the collection when the usher comes around. Thanks so much for giving online!
