EVENT OVERVIEW

This year marked 130 years of Red Cross service to the Bay Area and celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Red Cross Gala. As the region’s premier volunteer-led fundraiser and signature San Francisco event, the Gala is dedicated to recognizing local heroes and supporting the Red Cross mission. This year saw many families turn to the Red Cross for shelter, food, comfort and hope, particularly during an unprecedented wildfire season. Since its inception, the fundraiser’s purpose has remained the same: to celebrate and sustain the lifesaving programs, services and people of the Red Cross.

The Gala has raised over $6M during the last five years for a combined total of $12M raised since the its inception. The 2019 event, held on Saturday, March 23rd at San Francisco City Hall, raised more than $1M in support of the Red Cross mission. A sold-out crowd of 450 Bay Area notables helped to both honor 25 years of local and national disaster response efforts and celebrate Salesforce, the Red Cross Humanitarian Company of the Year.

The red-tie event featured a VIP cocktail hour with stunning caviar stations, passed hors d’oeuvres and a three-course dinner catered by Paula LeDuc Fine Catering. Guests also enjoyed an exclusive Vanity Portrait Studio and live entertainment by DJ Jason

Mitchell and SF Jazz. Highlights of the evening included a live auction that raised over $100,000 for disaster relief. Featured lots included a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enjoy a private dinner hosted by Michelin-starred Chef Mourad Lahlou in The Avery penthouse, one of San Francisco’s most exclusive residences by famed developer Related California. This experience was auctioned off twice for a total of $30,000. Bidders also vied for the chance to go behind the scenes at New York Fashion Week, auctioned off for $16,000; and a Las Vegas experience that included round-trip airfare for two, hotel accommodations courtesy of MGM Properties, and tickets to Lady Gaga’s ENIGMA concert.

The Gala was listed as a 2019 San Francisco Top 100 Event and Top 10 Benefit Event by BizBash.

All proceeds from the event support the lifesaving programs and services of the American Red Cross. Last year brought another record-breaking year of disasters, leaving people in our immediate communities, Southern California and beyond in desperate need of help. Donations make response and recovery efforts possible during natural disasters like the California Wildfires, including the Camp Fire, and national disasters such as Hurricane Michael. These vital funds allow the Red Cross to work preventively instead of reactively.

The Red Cross Gala is a signature annual event for the Bay Area’s philanthropic community, high-ranking military, civic and corporate leaders and the San Francisco International Consular Corps. New for 2019, we introduced young professional and individual supporters to the work of the Red Cross through the creation of a separate ticket to the Gala’s After Party.
