President’s  Page

“Only  fools  let  compliments  get  to  their  head,  and  criticism  get  to  their  heart.”  -‐Unknown

As  I’ve  now  been  president  of  our  association  for  almost  6  months,  I’ve  had  the  opportunity  to  get  some  great  feedback  from  our  members  in  regards  to  the  value  our  association  has  provided  over  the  past  year  or  so.    I  believe  this  is  one  of  the  greatest  advantages  to  having  a  local  association  underneath  NAIFA.    Your  voice  can  truly  be  heard.

I  spoke  with  most  members  who  attended  the  Legislative  Breakfast  on  March  3rd,  and  I  was  extremely  encouraged  with  the  positive  comments  and  the  productive  conversation  that  took  place  during  the  meeting.    All  those  I  spoke  with  agreed  that  there  was  true  dialogue  between  our  members  and  our  legislatures,  as  opposed  to  us  simply  stating  our  objectives  to  them  and  sending  them  on  their  way.    Also,  most  agreed  that  our  lobbying  partners,  Park  Strategies  did  a  great  job  setting  up  our  agenda,  running  the  meeting,  and  creating  the  atmosphere  that  encouraged  such  productive  dialogue.  In  fact,  one  of  our  members  has  continued  conversation  with  the  legislators  in  an  effort  to  increase  the  avenues  in  which  we  can  obtain  CEs  for  our  insurance  licenses.

As  is  always  the  case,  however,  there  were  some  things  that  were  brought  to  my  attention  that  we  can  improve  on.    Specifically,  we’ll  make  sure  to  get  our  RSVP’d  members  a  copy  of  the  agenda  and  key  Bills  we  are  opposed  to/in  favor  of  at  least  a  week  prior  to  the  meeting.

Another  bit  of  feedback  we  received  is  a  request  for  more  educational/sales  content  within  our  Syracuse  Advisor  newsletter.    I  thought  that  was  a  fantastic  idea,  and  I’ve  included  a  link  below  for  some  great  content  regarding  “Transferring  the  Family  Business”.  http://mmdigitalhub.com/as6012/index.html  When  our  Board  of  Directors  gets  together  this  month  we’ll  discuss  adding  more  educational  content  to  our  newsletter  on  a  regular  basis.

The  only  way  our  association  is  going  to  survive,  let  alone  grow  and  thrive,  is  if  our  members  continue  to  reach  out  to  Board  members  to  let  us  know  when  you’ve  found  value  in  what  we  do,  and  to  express  any  concerns  you  have  with  our  association  or  our  industry.  We  are  here  to  serve  our  membership,  so  please  put  us  to  task!

Professionally  yours,

Samuel  Chavarria,  CLU
