DEFINITIONS OF......

● STIGMA....

● A mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality or person. The apparent disapproval or discontent of a person or group of people, that serves to distinguish or isolate from perceived acceptance within societal 'norms'

● DISCRIMINATION....

● The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people especially on the grounds of race, age, gender and status, or, their perceived membership to a specific group or category. Found in policies, traditions, practices and ideas.

EFFECTS OF....

● Isolation of persons or whole groups of individuals.

● Lower rates of

interaction with

support groups and

treatment.

● Poor quality of life and negative feelings.

● Devaluation of whole groups of people within communities.

● Low self

esteem and

confidence in

individuals.

● Higher rates of

mortality and

morbidity in

community.
