July is a very busy month in StillWaters. According to the Gallup Poll, 51% of Americans vacation during the month of July. We welcome everyone that comes to visit family and friends in StillWaters during the month of July and hope you enjoy all StillWaters has to offer.
SWRA and other property owners will soon complete the repair and painting of the wood fence that borders the property around the Gate 34 entrance. The fence has been repaired and painted a more updated color. The new dark brown color will not show stains and mildew as much as the old white color. The SWRA office has received several inquiries as to why part of the fence was left white. This is because the fence is only partially owned by SWRA. There are several different owners of the fence. All but one of the owners agreed to the new color. This is why you see most of the fence the new dark brown color and a small portion of it is still white.
The SWRA office has received several inquiries about playing Pickle Ball at the courts located on StillWaters Drive. The courts are available on a first come, first serve basis. There are a few different groups that play regularly. Any StillWaters property owner that is interested in playing and has been issued an electronic gate card by SWRA can just show up to play. Most of the groups start around 7:30am on weekday mornings. Guests of property owners are also welcome but must be accompanied by a property owner with an electronic gate card.
Mark your calendar now to attend the presentation Alabama, the River State by Dr. Bill Deutsch on Saturday, August 25th beginning at 9:30am. The presentation will be held in the community room located in the SWRA Centre at 1816 StillWaters Drive. More information about Alabama, the River State can be found in this newsletter.
SWRA prohibits the use of fireworks inside StillWaters. There are too many buildings and a dry forest that could accidently catch fire from wayward fireworks. Sometimes property owners forget and use fireworks during holidays, especially on July 4th. Property owners that are caught using fireworks can be fined as much as $500 by SWRA. Don’t take the chance of getting caught. There is a great fireworks display at the AMP located at 8878 Kowaliga Road, Eclectic, AL 36024. Take the whole family and enjoy the bands until the fireworks start at 9pm. You can also take your boat to Kowaliga Bay on Lake Martin and have a great seat out on the water. For more information about the AMP July 4th events visit their web site http://www.theamponlakemartin.com/index.html.
The StillWaters Pineview pool is a great place to cool off on a hot July day. Make sure you have purchased your electronic gate card that allows you access to the pool. Electronic gate cards can be purchased for $10 at the SWRA Administration office located in the SWRA Centre.
Have a save and happy July 4th holiday. Hope to see you in StillWaters.
Happy July 4th

How Best to Prevent Mosquito Bites
The best way to avoid disease transmitted by mosquitos is to avoid their bite. Some tips for preventing mosquito bites are included below:
Avoid Getting Bitten Use an EPA-registered insect repellent on exposed skin Cover skin with long pants and long sleeves Tuck pant legs into socks to prevent gaps where mosquitos can reach skin Pregnant women should avoid travel to areas with high risk for Zika virus
infection, including regions in Mexico, the Caribbean and South America (see current CDC recommendations)
Select an Effective Insect Repellent The CDC recommends use of insect repellents that contain at least 20% DEET to prevent bites from
mosquitos, ticks and other bugs Insect repellents with the active ingredients picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE) and
para-menthane-diol (PMD) offer protection against mosquitos but may not be as effective against other insects
Generally, a higher percentage of active ingredient provides longer-lasting protection against mosquito bites If needed, apply sunscreen first and let dry before using insect repellent. Do not use combination products
containing both insect repellent and sunscreen
Create Barriers in the Home Use screens on doors and windows Check for holes or gaps in walls, doors and windows Cover cribs and beds with mosquito netting
Remove Mosquito Habitats Remove sources of standing water in buckets, plastic covers, toys or other containers where mosquitos can
lay their eggs Empty and change the water in bird baths, fountains and potted plant trays at least once a week
Straight Talk from General Manager Kevin Eason New Construction in StillWaters
The StillWaters Architectural Review Committee has issued 36 new residential property building permits and 28 vacant lots have sold since January 2017. These new construction projects are either under construction, planned, or have been completed. In comparison, from January 2010 through January 2015, there were only 12 new residential building permits issued and only 6 vacant lots sold during the that five year period. Several builders and developers are considering plans for more residential construction and because of the increased number of residents in StillWaters; other developers are now considering retail opportunities in and around StillWaters. Our community is growing and SWRA has put forth a concentrated effort to make our community more attractive to potential home buyers and to the builders that build the houses. There has been some controversy from existing property owners concerning the number of new homes that have been built in StillWaters. Some property owners are finding out that the vacant lot next door that they thought no one would ever build on now has a new house going up. Or that their view they thought would never change has changed. As long as the plans for a new house or building meet the requirements of the ARC and adhere to the StillWaters covenants, a building permit can be issued by the ARC.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin that is used by the body to make skin and blood vessels; repair and maintain cartilage, bones, and teeth; and aid in the absorption of iron. It also helps with the body’s healing process. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, which helps prevent cell damage; therefore, it may help with the ag-ing process, cancer, heart disease, arthritis and other medical conditions.
Although research has shown that vitamin C does not prevent the common cold, people who get adequate amounts of vitamin C may have a shorter duration of the common cold and possibly milder symptoms. However, taking vitamin C supplements once a cold has started does not appear to be helpful.
Vitamin C is not made naturally by the body; therefore, we have to consume vitamin C in order to get the amount needed by the body. Men age 19 years and older need 90 mg per day of vitamin C and women age 19 years and older need 75 mg per day. Amounts greater than 2,000 mg per day are not recommended due to increased risk for stomach upset. Raw fruits and vegetables are the best vitamin C food sources. Some foods with high vitamin C content include green and red peppers, oranges and grapefruits, berries, green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, broccoli and cabbage.
