Sting’s real name is Gordon Matthew Sumner. He was born in Wallsend, England and he is currently 58 years old.

He formed the band The Police in England in 1977. In the 5 years that followed, they released five albums that topped the chart and won six Grammy Awards.

Sting began his involvement in political and social justice in 1981, when he participated on The Secret Policeman’s Other Ball, a show staged by Amnesty International to raise funds for its research and campaign work for human rights.

In 1984, Sting joined a band called Band Aid, a charity association that grouped British and Irish musicians and recording artists. This band was formed with the purpose of raising money to fight hunger in Ethiopia.

They released the song Do They Know It’s Christmas? for the Christmas season in 1984.

In 1988, Sting released an album in Spanish and Portuguese, Nada como el Sol. He put this album together for a tour to South America called “A Conspiracy of Hope”. The purpose of this tour was to support parts of Latin America that have been oppressed by civil wars and suffered political abuse.

Trudy Styler in 1992, his second and current wife.

With her, he founded the Rainforest Foundation in 1989 to help save the rainforest and protect the rights of indigenous people in the Amazon.

Since it was founded, the Rainforest Foundation has helped indigenous and local communities to protect more than 100,000 square kilometers of rainforest.

The Foundation’s major achievement is the legal recognition and demarcation of over 27,000 square kilometers of land belonging to the Kayapo Indians in the Amazon in 1993.

The Foundation has grown and diversified since its creation. Today, there are three autonomous organizations that support and protect rainforests and their people over 20 countries: Rainforest Foundation US (based in New York), Rainforest Foundation Norway, and Rainforest Foundation UK.
